Adapter died again about three hours ago, but I couldn't be arsed to fix it. So I just left it and went to watch TV. I miss the Daily Show like.. really a lot. Heh. I should make it a regular habit again.

I hate my computer. And USB adapter. And USB ports. Thusly tomorrow I shall be shoving a new USB card into my machine. Bro has one downstairs and I'm going to see if he will let me have it. Maybe then this stupid thing will stop freaking out. If not... I'm going to cry like a baby and throw a fit. Then think about drilling holes in the walls and running a line to my room. Heh.

For now, sleep.

I had talked to THREE AOL & Time Warner reps asking if I could have AOL Broadband and use Internet seperately from the AOL program like I do now. They all said yes. So this morning I swtiched.

Christ on a bike.

I spent the last 2 hours first configuring AOL and then finding out that, no, I couldn't use Internet seperately from the AOL software and, in fact, after I got done with AOL Tech support, it still didn't work right. So, frell that. I called AOL to see about an E-mail Only plan ($2.95 a month) and ended up staying with the $24.94 BYOA account. To be fair, the woman was really nice and helpful and said that the person(s) I talked to didn't know what they were talking about. *snerk* With that fixed, I called Roadrunner to see about changing back. Which I did. And it was relatively painless. Except we still owe $44.95 for that and I didn't get some nice cushy offer for switching back. I'm sure I sounded completely manic and insane on the phone. If anything, at least I have our master e-mail account info now.

If my father doesn't use dial-up and both he and my brother just want AOL for the e-mail, then I am switcing the plan to the E-mail Only one because really, $24.95 is a ridiculous price for the amount of non-usage we have.

I still have to install the new USB card in my machine, but I think I'm gonna go eat lunch first and see if my brother has software for it.

Anyone in the Capital District using roadrunner know anything about webmail? If there is such a thing and how I would get to it??

I hate Outlook. Pop3 mail is retarded.

Nevermind. I found it! :D http://webmail.nycap.rr.com

Right. So I tried to install that USB card.. and not only did it crash my machine, but it made start up super-slow. We're thinking my board is not USB 2.0 compatible, whic could explain the issues with the wireless. *shrug*

My only other real solution: drill a hole int he floor and run a line from the router.

Not so sure people would be happy with that.

Anyone know anything about wireless & usb? I'm using a Siemens 1022 wireless USB adapter. Windows 98SE. Basically the adapter freezes all the time. It used to be just when I as downloading torrents. Then it would be when I use IE to browse. If I leave AIM open and not IM people, it seems fine. If I unplug the USB adapter, my machine freezes. To get it to work again, I basically have to uninstall the USB port, restart, and let the comptuer reinstall it. Then I can get a decent connection for a few days... or hours. *sigh*
