Is this a cake? I'm not sure. It's kind of a truffle? Anyway. I made a that chocolate eclair thing that was on Tumblr.

It was pretty quick and easy but MESSY. ALSO, DO NOT add 3 cups of milk IN ADDITION to the milk needed to make the pudding. In fact, the 3 cups of milk in the recipe? That is for the pudding. Mix the pudding, then fold in the Cool Whip.

I actually put too much milk in mine (almost 4 cups) and it was too much - you can see in the last photo that the pudding filling stuff hasn't really set right. Meh. I also didn’t need the whole container of frosting - half was enough.

Another thing I did wrong was to not use a large enough pan - it was roughly 9x13, but not deep enough so the final layer is just a tiny put above the sides once the frosted is poured on.

BUT IT IS TASTY. And I think that’s really all that matters.

Notes for next time: 3 cups of milk is plenty. Get a deeper pan. Heat frosting for longer.

Decided to try out the cup pies again today. This time I went with an apple filling detailed here. I ended up buying two boxes of pre-made pie crust and used 5 Cortland apples. I made 18 cup pies and 3 uncovered... pie tarts?

There was a little bit of spillover this time as well, but I think most of that was me not sealing the tops to the bottom crust well enough. They still came out of the muffin tray easily enough though.

So... I've also been into baking recently. I don't think I took real pictures of my pear pie with gruyere crust, but I'll do that next time I make one.

This time, I've tried out a Chuck's Triple Berry pie. I'd also been wanting to try out cup pies and thought maybe I'd do that with the first batch that I made yesterday.

Uhm. Not so much. pie fail below )

Today, I just made a standard pie and followed the directions from the site above. I realized while I was making the recipe again today that I put the wrong amount of lemon peel yesterday: the recipe calls for 1 teaspoon and somehow my brain told me 1/8. YEAH. Oh, I also substituted 1/8 teaspoon Allspice for the Cardamom I don't have as one commenter suggested. Works fine!

So, second trial went much better. mmm...pie! )

Worked on some website stuff today. Commission-y things as well as tiny updates to my own. Somewhat accomplished? There's still that one that I don't really want to start on. Ugh. Don't care at all.

Tom McRae's site is still down. What is up with that? Have sent an e-mail to inquire. In other news, he will be back in NYC at the Living Room October 29 & November 5. Both are Wednesdays. Hopefully I'll be able to make one of those and go see Tom again with [livejournal.com profile] ozw. In other Tom news, have finally heard the song, "Lipstick" that he did with Wills & the Willing. Like it a lot. Forked over $3 at mbop megastore for a copy as I refuse to touch iTunes.

Made cakes in a jar! Was a bit tragic. I think I filled the jars too much. And the batter I used (Pillsbury Funfetti mix) is a bit sweet. I think it would have gone better if I used smaller jars, so I might go find some and give it another go.
