cosmetic: minerals

Update on the weekend at a later date, but right now I want to do a makeup review. Both of my mineral makeup samples came in yesterday and I just tried them.
Signature Minerals
First, I have to say I'm not sure I applied it right, so I'm going to give these samples another try later. I tried using the powder brush with the tiny sample containers and I'm sure I didn't get the right amount of product on for application.
Soft Mint: this is their color corrector for red spots/rosacea. This actually works really well. I've tried it on someone who has some red spots to cover and it works great. No complaints about this powder.
Bisque: concealer. I don't think this works nearly as well as Bare Minerals concealer, even applying a lot of it.
Foundation in 2.3 Light Beige: I don't think this covered well at all. My mother said my face looked uneven. BUT, this could be due to my application because, as I said, I was trying to use it out of the sample container instead of tapping it out on a larger surface to get it on the brush. So I'm going to give this another go. It could also be that the 2.3 is too light for me. I haven't tried the 4.0 Light color yet.
Translucent Veil: Eh. I never got the point of finishing veils. I guess they're supposed to set everything. Their translucent veil is just serecite powder, which I read that you can use as a base to keep the makeup on longer, so I might give that a go.
Brushes: The powder brush from their Luscious line is really soft, but I'm not sure it's holding the powder correctly for application. It feels like the product just sort of slides right off the bristles. I might try their Signature natural hair line, which is only slightly more expensive the synthetics they offer. I haven't tried the wet/dry eyeshadow brush yet.
Eyeshadow: The Bordeaux was all wrong for me. But it might make a nice lip color.
Overall: On first impression, I'm sort of lukewarm about it. I do love their color correction powder for the fact that it works well. The powder was sort of... cake-y? It was hard to pour them out of the sifter for use. The concealer didn't cover well at all. The foundation I think I will try again to make sure.
Everyday Minerals
I had a hell of a time picking the color foundation I wanted because they offered a ridiculous 32 shades.
Multitasking Concealer: I don't think covers quite as well as Bare Minerals concealer, but it does a good job of lightening dark spots and covering blemishes and light red splotches (which I have all over my face). No real complaints. Will keep using this and if it holds up, I might just replace my BM stuff with this.
Foundation: I tried the Olive Fair in semi-matte first. That's another thing - you have four formula choices and I hadn't really a clue what one to pick, so I stuck with matte and semi-matte. For application, this time, I dumped some powder onto a plastic surface and swirled the brush in that. Worked much better I think. The coverage was even, but it didn't really look like I'd put anything on. It's possible the color was too light. So on top of that, I ended up applying the medium beige neutral, which worked a little better. I think the colors not quite right, so I think I'm going to try another sample in Light and Light Olive.
Blush in Plum Dust: very light... not really noticeable even after applying a couple layers. Not a bad color, though. Might be a good allover face color.
Overall: Their powders are a nice, loose consistency; easy to tap out from the sifter. The concealer was good. I think I'm going to have a tough time picking the right foundation color. I have normal/dry skin and I think the matte formula looks a bit powdery, so I'm probably going to try the Original Glo formula (and having a look at their forums, users are saying the semi-matte, matte, and intensive formulas are very drying).
Considering these powders are half the price of Bare Minerals, I'm going to keep trying the samples and see how they wear. In fact, I'm going to order some Everyday Minerals samples right now and try different foundation colors as well as their mint color corrector to see how it compares.
This time from Everyday Minerals, I'll be trying foundations in Light Olive, Light, and Golden Medium (all in Original Glo), color corrector in Mint, and face color in Jump Rope.
