news; work; doctor
Aug. 18th, 2005 06:33 pmAw, shite. Joe Ranft, head of Pixar Animation, died in a car crash yesterday.
I haven't the patience to really read the flist today. Sorry. I did mark a few fics I want to read though.
Work today was... really, really draining. I went in at 9am and the first thing that B said when she waslked in was that she had a project for me. I then spent an hour trying to make an appointment with the neurologist, but I'll talk about that in a minute. The project was to write a worksheet for the other staff to use during the training for the new system - which I later found out was more a presentation. Well, that's what the guy was prepared for, anyway. So I had 3 hours to condense a 60 page technical manual into something easy for the older ladies who've never used a computer before to understand. Oy. I got it down to 18, but I left out some major thing. I'd never actually used the system much - maybe once - so I really didn't know what I was doing. When we get in there, the guy is telling me the steps I wrote for gift certificates and layaways is wrong. No duh. I'm surprised I got more than half of it right, actually. After 2 hours in there I realized no one present knew how to explain technical thing to people who have no clue. If they ask you about the mouse and cursor, the correct response is not to say "the mouse and cursor." You know? Or if they ask how to select something, you should never start with "well, there are four different ways" because that immediately makes them freak out. At the end, the guy and I decided that it would be best for me to sit down with him and rewrite the directions properly. Works for me.
It seems I also discovered today that I like tech support. Go figure.
As for the neurologist, after being on hold for 10 minutes, I was then told they didn't have my referal. So I then had to call my primary to make sure it was sent through to the right place. It was. So I had to call the neurologist back again and wiat 5 more minutes before I was able to make an appointment... for September 15th. Excellent.
Erm. Crap. I just realized that I forgot to give my coworker the Tom CD I burned for her. Oops. Will see if she's working this weekend and will leave it for her.
I need to go lie down now.
P.S. CJ - I made two new ReaperGate icons *g*
