Unfortunate event #1: Came home to discover pipes sort of frozen. Likely due to the fact that mom left garage open and father had left big hole in the ceiling of the garage right where pipes are. Broke out hairdryers to thaw pipes. Have water. Yay! Shoved insulation into hole to keep pipes from freezing again.

Unfortunate event #2: While mom was putting extra insulation back into attic, she slipped and fell through ceiling. Well, actually, one leg went through into the medicine closet and broke the shelf closest to the ceiling. She's basically unhurt - just some bruising. Brother and I cleaned up mess and put board over hole.

Does anyone know how to repair drywall or whatever it is they use for the ceiling? I thought it was drywall as well... anywa, I think we have two big boards in the garage that are plenty. Have no time. argh. omg.

I'm gonna go eat dinner. Finally.

It's a roofing problem and unless you know what you're doing you're gonna have to call someone to fix it. Sorry man...

No, the roof is fine. It is a ceiling problem and can be fix. I just don't know how. The sad part is... my father does.

well, the ceiling is all part of that. It's more complicated then say, fixing a wall... you should ask him.

Actually... the ceiling I'm talking about is part of the floor of the attic. The roof is what's covering the attic and has no real sheetrock/drywall ceiling. The other hole is below the floor of the first level. It's technically similar to fixing a wall.

I'd feel better asking my father to fix it if I didn't think he was such an asshole.

I see... hopefully it's as simple as that, usually (so I've heard) you have to redo the entire ceiling when that stuff happens.

maybe because he's an asshole, you should make him do it :P

i don't know how to actually do it-but i've seen them do it on tv! *g* ok, seriously-i think you should be able to fix the one in the closet without too much difficulty...but i don't know how. :(

not sure about the ones in the garage...should be the same idea, i think...

you don't have holes in the roof of the house, right? just the drywall (yes, it is also drywall in the ceilings-when it broke, was it make a white mess?)ceiling?

I know! Same here. I have a very vague idea that it involves cutting the old stuff out neatly and patching and stuff, but I don't know exactly how. You're right, though - the closet should be easier since we can go up into the attic, but the garage will be tougher since right above it is floor space. I'm not too worried about the garage, though, since we shoved a bunch of insulation up in there.

Right. Just drywall. If it was the roof I totally would have called someone, I don't care what time it was XD

maybe you could try checking HGTV or DIY's websites? i'm sure they might have something that can help you. isn't it DIY that's always saying you can print out directions and stuff?

hee. yeah, that would have been BAD!
