Note to the networks: You are all idiots. There are more important things going on. Really.

PTBs: Good or Evil? spoilers for Angel 5x12: You're Welcome

Wow, two posts on one episodes. Has to be a new record. Anyway.

There seems to be a debate as to whether or not the PTBs are good or evil. [livejournal.com profile] dlgood has been the most vocal about the PTBs duping the gang into doing their will. And I agree, to an extent. Sure, on the surface, the PTBs seem to be good - they help Angel and Co stop the bad guys and help the helpless. But then again, who's to say they aren't sending the visions so Angel can kill off the otherside - the helping the helpless jus being a convenient result.

This reminds me a lot of Babylon 5 and the whole Shadow War. The First Ones were basically the older races of the galaxy. The two remaining were the Vorlons and the Shadows. From the beginning, it was basically established that the Shadows were bad and the Vorlons, though not exactly good, were cryptic and helpful. Then during the big Shadow War, it was revealed that basically neither side was really what they appeared - the Vorlons were manipulating the younger races and the Shadows, well, they of course were doing that too, but they thought they were helping by causing conflict. Vorlons were all for order and the Shadows were all for war and chaos. That's a really simplified explanation of the whole thin, of course.

Who's right and who's wrong? So the PTBs believe in stopping Wolfram & Hart. Wolfram & Hart probably just want to stop the PTBs from killing their clients. Again, over simplified, but you can see what I'm saying. Both greater powers are manipulating lesser powers (ie, Angel & Co) to accomplish their agenda.

But, of course, there are probably factions within all this - PTBs that really are trying to be helpful and maybe there's a Senior Partner who's a bit disgruntled and want to help out the other side. It's also possible that the visions and such started out to be exactly what they were presented as - Angel helping the helpless and at some point it all became corrupt.

In that line of thinking... what if Doyle was the only one who had a direct line to the good PTBs who really wanted to help? He died fighting the "good fight" and we all thought Cordelia got The Visions. Obviously, she was getting visions, but who was sending them? Maybe that was the point where the Jasmine faction took over and the whole thing started to go wrong. That would certainly give the Senior Partners reason to get rid of Angel & Co. - there is no way that they would want the Jamine-faction to take over the world. Bad for business and all.

Of course, this is all hindsight and I'm trying to explain away a few continuity issues and whatnot. We'll just have to see how Joss & crew play this all out.
