Sep. 8th, 2003 02:46 pmPotC is still top at the box office at #3 with a $282.0m total gross. "Dickie Roberts" is at #1. Must be all those former child stars going to support. XD
Note to self: Clean out inbox as you have too much c.r.a.p. in it.
Cool site of the day: 247 Media Studios - lovely flash work and creepy music. My kind of site.
(via
buhfly) Johnny Depp was quoted out of context:
"What I was trying to say is that, compared to Europe, America is a very young country and we are still growing as a nation. My deepest apologies to those who were offended, affected, or hurt by this insanely twisted deformation of my words and intent."
.. but I liked that he called America a dumb puppy.. heh
Justice Dept. Drafts Sweeping Expansion of Anti-Terrorism Act - oh. great. I'm leaving now.
White Wolf Publishing sues Sony over "Underworld" - um, hi! You didn't invent the vampire/werewolf mythos or the Romeo/Juliet-type storylines. Of crouse there are going to be similarities. Go away.
Tinney adds, "Our fans think they're going to be seeing our film. Of course, if the movie gets released, in a way they will be."
Uhm. I don't think anyone will think that the movie is at all related to Masqurade.. except now, since you'd said it. Even then... meh.

Date: 2003-09-08 01:37 pm (UTC)Of course, White Wolf took all of THEIR stories and backgrounds from mythology and other sources, so they really can't scream if other people do the same thing.
-Bree, used to having long involved conversations on the copyright status of the World of Darkness ;)

Date: 2003-09-08 12:40 pm (UTC)Don't companies have to defend their copyright for threat of losing it? I'm not too familiar with the law in this case.

::snork::
Date: 2003-09-08 03:15 pm (UTC)But, like Bree said - everyone borrows from the same pot of mythos in works like this. WW would be in danger of being sued by the ancient Greeks, northwestern Native Americans, Italians, thugs, feminists, Vikings, tech heads, homeless people... The list goes on. If someone "borrowing" plot and storylines is "wrong," then WW is in a heap of trouble.
That said, I know several WW enthusiasts - mostly LARPers - who are dying to see what they call, "White Wolf: The Movie." Is it Sony's fault that people are making this connection? Probably not. Have stupider cases won settlement? Hell, yeah.
Donna :)

Date: 2003-09-08 06:43 pm (UTC)So is the release date going to be pushed back?
From everything I've read about the movie.. it IS a horror-ish take on R&J.. and the last time I checked, Romeo & Juliet was written by William Shakespeare, not Nancy Collins.
I hate people who sue.
