After spending all night tweaking and testing settings (with the help of [livejournal.com profile] ozw, [livejournal.com profile] fyrdrakken, [livejournal.com profile] logansrogue, and [livejournal.com profile] sezzag), I was only able to get file transfer to work with Oz and he could dc to me, but I can't dc to him. *smacks AIM and router*

This claims that now finally AIM will work.

Basically, everyone behind a firewall trying to connect to someone behind a firewall needs to have the latest beta. The catch is, you can't direct connect or file transfer to anyone with a previous version.

[livejournal.com profile] ozw, I'm thinking about getting the beta. Does it tweak at all? What did you think of it? DeadAIM 3.2.1 supports the 5.2 Beta.

[livejournal.com profile] pgnblade - know anything about this? I messed with the forwards and port triggers a million times.

Before I install it, I'll have to remember to back up my away messages and stuff. I forget and I get pissed off.

Make sure you have the latest firmware updates for the router. After that, don't sweat it. If it doesn't it just won't. AIM hates local networks.

AIM 5.2 Beta apparently works through routers. I just need someone to test it with me.

i haven't had any issues with it...its basically the same as 5.1 but they added IM forwarding capabilities (which can be very annoying if you don't know what your'e doing) and the weird firewall thingy. i just really don't like how the send file has changed and you don't see the speed (not that it was ever accurate) or get a message saying it was sent. if you send me something fast and i'm not looking, i won't even know you sent it cuz i have auto-accept on. annoying.

here's a list of bugs listed on the aim.com site:
- On Windows NT, the Buddy List menus will not open, and the Content Panel menu items will cause a crash.
- If you select the "AOL proxy server only" Firewall preference, your buddy must also be on the latest Windows or Mac client for file transfers and direct IMs to work properly.
- If you are using personal firewall software that blocks all incoming connections, you should select the "Outgoing, and AOL proxy server" Firewall preference.
- "Open Direct IM connection" will fail if you have selected the "Outgoing, and AOL proxy server" Firewall preference and your buddy is on an older version of Windows AIM.
- Closing the Direct IM connection from the People menu while a file is being transferred in the Direct IM may cause the Direct IM window to hang or stop updating. You will need to sign off and back on to fix the issue.
- After receiving a very large file on Windows 98/ME via File Transfer or File Sharing, you may need to restart the AIM client in order to use most AIM features again.
- If you are signed onto both AIM and AOL with the same screen name, Get File and Send may not work in some cases.
- Attempting to download a folder from current versions of AIM Mac via Get File will not work. You should open the folder and download the files individually.
