Went to see Watchmen with
smashedrecords. Decided on the 11:50am showing hoping it wouldn't be too busy... and it wasn't. We had less than a dozen people in our theater. Also... screening was fuzzy and no DLP? WTF.
Quick review: I liked it a lot. Love the cinematography, the soundtrack & score, the acting, the costumes. Fight scenes where i could actually see what was going on. Yeah. Pretty much liked it all.
I know there are people who aren't really happy with the film, and I guess I can understand why, but sorry guys, I really enjoyed it. I wonder if it's at all because I can't remember the comic that well, but... *shrug*
First off: Dr. Manhattan. To all the gigglers -- what are you, 12? We see enough breasts on TV that it hardly phases people anymore. Dr. Manhattan has a peen. Get over it.
The opening montage showing how the Minutemen got together was pretty neat. Also? Worst Nixon evar. But yeah, I liked how they shot that montage with it looking like photographs, but you'd move through them too. Was just cool. The use of music was great, as well as the color palettes.
Silk Spectre kicked ass. Night Owl was so much less annoying when he decided to go fight crime again. Rorschach was totally nuts, but totally awesome. I loved his scenes in the jail.
The ending: I kind of like the new one better. Because honestly, people - a giant alien squid? If Dr. Manhattan's going to leave the Earth anyway, at least this makes more sense. Veidt still gets to be the misunderstood superhero who turns into a villain while actually saving humanity, but he doesn't come up with the lame idea of giant alien squid!
I might have more to say, but I can't think of it now and my computer keeps freezing. So. Hurrah.

Date: 2009-03-07 11:53 pm (UTC)I really liked the changes, personally. I think they fit and updated the film slightly without taking away from the alternate-80's feel of it. I never got the giant alien squid; it just seemed stupid.
