twilight; movie: dark knight
Aug. 2nd, 2008 11:12 pmLike I said earlier, I caved and picked up Breaking Dawn. I am ASHAMED. Honestly. I kind of couldn't wait, knowing that everyone else was already reading it. This is kind of sad, right? Whatever. Point to you, Stephenie Meyer. Clearly the tactic of delaying the ebook (and thus stopping the torrents, etc) in an attempt to sell more hardcopies worked.
Right, so, mom and I went to see The Dark Knight. The place was still packed and, yes, it has totally crushed my beloved Iron Man in the box office (though I'm happy someone finally toppled Titanic). While we were waiting for the commercials and stuff to be over, I noticed the woman next to me pulled out her newly purchased copy of Breaking Dawn to read! Hehe.
Short version: Excellently dark. Heath Ledger was fabulous. Why did no one tell me Nestor Carbonell was in it? It was really long. And it felt like it. More in-depth thoughts after the cut.
Oh. We did not get the Twilight trailer. WTF.
So. Dark Knight. I do love this new series of films. I prefer this darker version of Batman to the Adam West version and the horrible Schumacher stuff. Christian Bale makes a great Bruce Wayne, but something about his Batman still throws me... mostly it's the voice. Still. Love him. Maggie Gyllenhaal was a better Rachael Dawes and, well, I'm sort of glad they killed her. She had to die, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to transition into the Dark Knight (much like Penny having to die for Billy to become Dr. Horrible).
Harvey Dent. Great. Really great. I love the change to Two-Face and the look they designed. It was just freakish and real and not at all cheesy (see Batman Forever).
Heath Ledger wins. That's all. His Joker is perfectly psychopathic. He has absolutely no redeeming qualities, srsly. His magic trick was great. The hospital scene was great (that dress! And the walk!). Then his conversation with Dent. And that experiment with the two boats? I mean, I kind of suspected that they did, in reality, hold the detonator for their own boats. It was interesting how the criminal made the right decision first and threw the detonator out and the civilians only didn't push it because the guy couldn't just kill a bunch of people, not that he thought it was wrong to do it.
I know when I saw Iron Man a bajillion times I was saying how Tony Stark wins over Batman? Okay.. well.. maybe not. Batman has way shinier toys and I admit he'd probably kick Stark's ass. :\ *sigh* I have high hopes for the Stark of Iron Man 2, though! Yes, I do.
Still. Even with those things, the movie felt really long and like it just wouldn't freakin' end. Just on and on and on and on. Geez. This is definitely a film I can watch just the once.
And now... I am off to read Breaking Dawn! Before I accidentally read anything on the flist.

Date: 2008-08-03 03:31 am (UTC)In terms of US box office gross, the Dark Knight is about $300 million behind, and world wide it's trailing by about $1.4 billion.
And of course Batman could beat Stark. Stark is just a guy walking around with a major heart problem. Batman vs Iron Man? Well, then there's definitely some room to maneuver. :)
(see Batman Forever)?
No. Don't see it. Seriously. It's awful.
Agree totally with everything else you said though.
Except for the 'watch just the once' part. I have to see it again, since the first time I was about 4 1/2 inches away from the screen.

Date: 2008-08-04 03:54 pm (UTC)It was funny, I saw the X-Files movie the same night, at like a 9pm showing, and they still played an ad for the screening. "Hey, if I only had a Delorean, er, TARDIS, I could still make it!"

Date: 2008-08-03 04:48 am (UTC)but i was so enthralled that when i noticed it, i got distracted :op so definitely my vote is in favor of seeing it again. but i might go see Hellboy2 tomorrow, soooo. yeah.
(you know, since i read all of BD this afternoon/evening, and therefore have nothing of importance to do tomorrow ^^)
yes on all accounts. but it REALLY sucks you didn't get the trailer on the big screen! that's the reason i ever got interested in the FIRST place! (i mean, besides a passing mild interest in its flourishment on the intarwebs)
if i knew who nestor carbonell WAS, i'm sure i would have mentioned it O_o
yeah, the voice throws me a bit - but wasn't there something in batman begins, an offhand comment, that it was a voice modulator, rather than him just trying to be all gruff-like?
i will not comment on batman vs. iron man.
i will, however, say that in a room full of brazilian/italian/greek supermodels, bruce wayne vs. tony stark would be a pissing contest i'd actually LIKE to see *snortlaugh*

Date: 2008-08-03 09:19 pm (UTC)I was tempted to buy BD. For maybe about 2 seconds. I held out and was rewarded late yesterday evening. I got done reading it this morning.

Date: 2008-08-03 10:06 pm (UTC)Hm. They might be able to do Mr. Freeze effectively? Two-Face looked pretty awesome. Riddler would be interesting. I'd like to see a new version of Catwoman, actually.
