seijitataki to put it in. Well. Uh. It doesn't fit. So what we ended up doing was just taking the old heat sink off and checking it out. The thermal pad that was on it before was totally shot, so we cleaned off the processor and heat sink before reapplying some Arctic Silver thermal compound. Cleaned off the heat sink and put it all back together. (We're returning the heat sink.)
Turned it back on and nothing blew up, so that was a good sign. An even better sign is that Schrodinger is now running at 46C! And I suspect that if I were to make some DVD discs, that the temperature would at least manage to stay within reasonable numbers. So I'm probably going to give that a go.
While he was at it, my crappy graphics rendering was really irking my brother, so he went and got the latest ATI drivers for my caard and... totally solved my two year problem of jerky scrolling and redraw issues. Best of all.. uh.. the update totally fixed the problem with my DVD player wherein it.. wouldn't play DVDs. Now it does! Which is awesome. Not that I've ever really had the need to play a DVD on this thing, but I couldn't and it was just pissing me off.. but now I can! Hurray! As a bonus, that really weird high pitched whine that used to happen when I scrolled it gone, so hurray for that too!
In other news, the BDU pants I ordered came in today. One was a pair of small black BDUs, which.. fit but are rather baggy and the other pair are boy's size 16 BDU pants. They fit.. rather tight XD Which is probably good. And they're just the right length, I think, and would look good with a pair of boots.. if I can find the right pair of boots.
Now I'm going to get my photos from last night's Ten Year Vamp show uploaded and then go watch some more Top Gear.
