camera; photos
Apr. 21st, 2007 06:34 pmGot up this morning to take some old computer parts and random electronics to the collection point. There were crazy long lines in both directions. I sort of wish I'd brought my camera with me then so I could have gotten photos of the massive piles of stuff they had. We dropped off stuff at about 9:30am and when I drove by again this afternoon at 4pm, volunteers were still there leading up the trucks. Eesh.
Went around to Boscov, Circuit City, and Best Buy to find a bag for my camera. I didn't really know what I wanted, but I didn't want to spend a ton of money. Boscov didn't have anything, but Circuit City had the Crumpler 2million dollar home, but it was a bit pricey for me. They also had the Case Logic SLCC1, which I did like but they wanted $30 for it. Uh, no. At Best Buy, I went through a bunch of their bags. An employee recommended the Lowepro Edit 110, but it was a little tight and had way too much velcro, so I ended up buying the Lowepro Rezo 110. It's big enough to fit the camera now and if I were to get an adapter and lenses later. It's got a velcro pocket in the front but the camera loads from a zippered compartment. There's a belt loop in the back in case I ever want to actually do that (perhaps at cons where I'm in Stargate gear).
I'm actually thinking I might knit a small bag for just the camera when I need to put it in a bag. The bag I bought today would just be for storage mostly.
crushw_eyeliner gave me some cool pink/black yarn that I could use and then maybe go to Joann's to buy a bunch of remnant fabric to line the inside. Hm... yes... I can do that.
All righty. I've been randomly shooting photos with my shiny new camera and here are the first batch of crap images that I've taken.

Third image taken on the camera. Uh. The first one came out black because it was set on.. something.. and it came out crappy.

Clearly not knowing how to use white balance or set shutter speed yet.

At this point I was still trying to use EV+/- to adjust exposure. Yeah, not so much.

Yay flash.

I took this at the wrong resolution -- 640x480. I dunno. Other than that, it's not bad.

Trying out the macro lens, but every other setting is messed up.

Uh. Blue. I think I set the white blance with the flash, and then I closed the flash and it was all wrong then.

I dig that you can really adjust the flash setting on this camera so as no to overpower (or blind) the subject.

Fiddling with the preprogrammed settings -- this one highlights blues and makes everything else b/w.

Oh my messy, blurry desk.

Uhm. It's supposed to be daylight.

And it looks like it once I switched to Shutter Priority mode and adjusted that.

Hurray for 12x zoom! That telephone pole is... very, very far away. You do really notice the fringing once you telephoto that much.

Using the zoom, a photo of the pool cover from my back deck. I'm pretty sure I used manual focus.

Super macro! YAY!

Another shot using zoom, across my backyard while standing inside behind my sliding glass door.

Shao.

Macro.

Macro.

Bird on the lines! It was really far; with my old camera, I might have gotten a bird-shaped dot. This image is just changed from 180dpi to 72dpi and cropped.

Shao. Tv mode; manual focus.

P mode. Auto focus.

Another really nice photo using full telephoto. Adjusted dpi and cropped.

Telephoto; manual focus.

P mode; white balanced.

Macro.

And of course I had to test out the movie mode, so here's a vid of Shao playing with a new toy we bought her today: MVI_0118.AVI, ~23MB
Now I'm off to clean put away everything in my new camera bag (hurray!) and put my Life on Mars loaner set together (the case for which I got from
punslingerr). Then... probably try to work on my scarf.

Date: 2007-04-21 10:44 pm (UTC)One thing I can't figure out is why the Canon saves everything at 180dpi while my Nikon was 300dpi. Now, some of these silly camera people are saying that's not relevant, but, uh, actually it is. Meh. I can't change it so I'm going to end up shooting at a super-high res just to compensate.
Which.... is not at all anything that you care about or related to you comment XD
