Oh, geekery!

[livejournal.com profile] tea_fiend was nice enough to help me get a hold of one of the super-rare Tenth Doctor in suit figures -- and this one came with a sonic screwdriver! Sweet. So here are photos:

And the TARDIS phone flasher that [livejournal.com profile] crushw_eyeliner got me:

Yes. My Razr has a blue snap-on cover.

Hurray geekery!

Hm. Food. Then perhaps more icons.

Dear BBC:

You have a YouTube Channel. But you're blocking everyone outside the UK. Hell, I'm told you're blocking people in Ireland. What gives? If you're not going to share, get the frack off YouTube.

No love,
me

re BBC - There are will three BBC Channels eventually - the BBC channel does not have adverts and is only for UK. It is also to direct UK licence fee payers towards the Beebs new iplayer. Folks in the rest of the world including Ireland don't pay a tv licence to fund the Channels so don't get to view. Sorry. I also think it there would have been even more problems than this is already causing if they had offered up the BBC Channel to the rest of the world. Commercial companies are always whinging about the Beeb straying into areas so that they (Commercial TV) can no longer exploit it because the Beeb has an unfair advantage. I'm sure enterprising folk have already found ways round the blocking.
There is a bbc worldwide channel which the whole world can view and has adverts http://www.youtube.com/BBCWorldwide

I understand that they're funded by licensing fees, I do. And they have the right to restrict their media content if they want to -- on their own servers. I think it's pretty crap that they're using the YouTube bandwidth, server space, name, etc. when YouTube is an American company (though yes, now, they're essentially international and that YouTube has made a deal with them). Basically, "hey, we're putting stuff on your American servers and services, but you Americans can't access it."

I dunno. I guess I wouldn't have an issue if they continued to serve UK-only content from their site, but now that it's on, for all intents and purposes, an international site, I'm annoyed. I'll get over it.

Yeah, but BBC Worldwide doesn't have the new Doctor Who clips :-P

I've watched all of the Season Three episodes, including the Christmas special, that have run in the UK by heading over to YouTube on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Oh. Well. I'm going to be watching the new episodes another way, but I just find the YouTube thing irksome ;)

I'll admit the image is small but to get the shows long before they run in the US and without the random commercial breaks that the Sci-Fi Channel edits is a good thing to me.

I'm extremely tempted to try one of our UK proxy servers to slip by this but I'm afraid that IT might come looking for me once they realize what I'm doing.

Your Doctor doll, he's ten inches, right?

Oh, I didn't say that!

Bwah! Yes, I could try one of the proxy sites to view the items, but since they're just promo clips right now, I'm not really going to bother. Besides, I'm sure I'll get to see them eventually. *cough* Not that I would know where to find them on the interwebs. No, not at all.

Your Doctor doll, he's ten inches, right?

Aw, no. The poor boy is only five.

OH SNAP!

The funny thing is they were veiw able last week. I get the whole licence fee thing. It's the reason I you can't see anything streaming video on their site either. And I've been told NBC has done the same thing with some of there streeming videos.

It's kind of sad that they don't have a BBC America won.

Hm. Well, they have a BBC Worldwide channel which is supposed to be viewable by anyone, but I haven't really looked at the clips there to see if I care.

So I'm allowed to watch BBC stuff online, even though I don't have a TV licence, but Americans, who also don't pay, can't watch? Yeah, real logical from the people who keep sending me nasty letters about having no licence when, oh, look! I don't have a TV!

Yeah, the Doctor's good. I can see why my dad was impressed, it's a good likeness.

Heee! Yeah, well, I guess it would be too much trouble for them to specifically block someone inside the UK who wasn't paying the license fee.

He's so coooool! I think I will take him to the Shore Leave convention with me :D
