doctor who: runaway bride, concert
Dec. 30th, 2006 11:50 pmSo I finally sat down and watched it today... the Doctor Who Christmas special, "The Runaway Bride."
I liked it. Okay, I do admit that the storyline was a bit choppy, but it was still coherent enough. Please, people, do not make me pull out Smallville as an example of incoherent writing. I thought it was a fun adventure! Yes, yes, Donna was a bit annoying (and by "a bit" I mean "a lot") but I think she developed into a sympathetic character by the end -- not bad for a super-annoying woman who had 50 minutes to change my mind. I love that they didn't just drop Rose totally -- that there were still reminders of her to throw the Doctor into angst mode: her shirt on the Tardis, the flashes back to New Earth, and Donna unwittingly poking at the fresh wound. I kind of enjoyed that Donna was capable of slapping him around when he was babbling on because... well, I totally would have thought about doing the same. All aruond fun, seriously. Tennant continues to be cute; I want of my very own!
Watched the Dctor Who Celebration concert as well. I really love Murray Gold's score for the series. it was neat seeing all the monsters walking about on stage... the Clockwork robots, a Dalek, Cybermen, Sycorax. The "Doomsday" score gets me every time, as does Rose's theme. *tear* One weird thing is the difference between the broadcast concert and the one BBC radio had. The radio one had a longer Q&A, but was missing the bit from the Christmas Special -- the introduction of which was sort of funny because they picked Freema out of the crowd and everyone started clapping. David looks at the monitor and sort of smiles saying, "She's not in this one," but that she's "worth the wait."
Also watched the Doctor Who Confidential for the concert. Neat stuff, a lot of clips from the concert and some set-up stuff with loads of comments about he score and Murray Gold. David, of course, once again demonstrates how much of a Who geek he is.
My copy of the episode had a bunch of commericals at the end for Who-actor projects. There was one for the new Sarah Jane Adventures, which looks mildly interesting, but I don't think I'm going to make the effort. A really weird ad for Billie Piper in "The Ruby in the Smoke." I say weird because I'm not enirely sure what it was about... And there was and ad for another Dracula retelling with Sophia Myles (Reinette) as Lucy and Marc Warren (Elton) as Dracula.
Speaking of Sophia Myles, who is currently dating David Tennant (they are so cute!)... she's only like a year older than I am. *sigh*
I need a Doctor Who icon that is not all emo... blah
Oh.
sweetwildandmad -- Eccleston's in the season premiere of Heroes which, if IMDB is right, will be January 22. Uh. One month after the first season finale? WTF, NBC?
