These notes were taken during the weekend, so it's mostly just retyping what I'd written and it reads more like a diary than a con repot. Might do a small bit of editing where I remember something. Haven't had a chance to check for typos.
Uhm... posted in two parts because apparently there's too much text for one post :-P

Uh... great start to the trip -- the checkpoint took way longer than it should have 'cause I forgot to take out the plastic bag with the little bottles in it, per airline regs. D'oh! The TSA lady was really nice about it, though, probably because I wasn't all pissy. I saw a few TSA people I knew from working there last year, but I doubt they remember me.
Oh. Em. Gee. It is too early.
On the plane to Chicago, I sat next to a woman who looked a lot like Kate Hewlett. Totally wasn't of course, but I was still amused. We chatted a bit about how we thought there wouldn't be a plane since there was no attendant at the gate desk and no message on the board at the gate or on the monitors.
**
Am in Chicago now. Had to walk fraking far to get to my gate, so I hope it's the right one :-P Have an hour and a half to kill.
**
Chicago to San Francisco, I was stuck with this girl next to me who was irrationally annoying. I think I was already just sick of being on planes.
Got to San Francisco a tad late only to find out my connection was an hour late. Frak. While waiting, this elderly Chinese couple who didn't speak English asked if I could help them and I let them use my cell to call their son. Heh. They spoke some dialect I didn't know, but their Mandarin was a bit better than mine, so we were able to communicate. I also chatted with some skater kid (originally from Orange County, but going to school in VT) during the long wait. We bonded over plane delays, confusion, and frustration. We were also ready to choke a bitch if the plane and its flight crew didn't show up.
**
Okay, two hours later, still fraking here. Gave me time to chat with the skater kid some more. We chatted about why we were traveling and I gave him the Signal Room info since his taste in music seemed to match with their style. He finally broke down and bought a magazine, so we ended up making fun of all the ads in Vibe. Are there like no articles in that thing? We also talked about what shows we watched (BSG, nip/tuck, Lost) and movies to see (The Departed, Prestige, Illusionist, Stranger than Fiction, Happy Feet). He has MySpace and no LJ. Booo. Down with MySpace! :-P
3:30pm, finally there's a plane here, but the fraking flight crew is missing.
Finally got on the plane and was 2 hours late to Burbank. Ugh. Met
athenaktt and her friend, Andrew, at the gate area. We headed off to Hollywood and HIghland to see if we could make the shuttle for the observatory. We did! Well, actually, the woman let us on shuttle even though we were pretty late. Anyway.
Griffith Observatory was pretty cool. It was the grand reopening after a four-year renovation project, so there were a lot of people there as well as news crews. Everything inside was shiny and new! I took a lot of photos of the exhibits and the main hall. There was a Tesla coil! So awesome. I got a couple good photos of it sparking. When we'd finished looking around inside, we went out on the roof and saw that a heavy fog had started to roll in. It made everything sort of creepy and glowy.
After coming back from the observatory, we went to Johnny Rockets for dinner. Man, these waitresses sure were enthused about dancing! Our wait staff at home are sort of limp :-P I wasn't as hungry as I thought though, so I didn't finish my meal. Stupid plane trip and time zones.
**
Headed to the Burbank Hilton for the Signal Room show. There was some minor confusion about how to actually get in to the venue, but we figured it out. Heh. We were sort of loitering around the front desk and chatting with the attendant people when I turned around and saw stephen Edwards at the Signal Room table. He came over and we chatted for a bit, I introduced
athenaktt and Andrew. I met Linda, who is so totally sweet. In a quick chat convo, I had told Buck I'd be wearing the Afternoon Delight shirt, so he saw it recognized it immediately. Ha!! I think he said something like, "There's not mistaking that shirt" or something. Am amused. As the guys got ready for their set, we chatted a bit with Linda. She used to work in the props department on Farscape. Very cool.
The con was running a bit late, but they finally let us in about half an hour later. I, of course, didn't write down the set list (because I am dumb), but it was a nice mix of new songs, old songs, older songs, and the songs Anthony Simcoe had sent out via the mailing list. I think "So L.A." is still one of my favorite songs and it sounds really awesome live. Totally high energy. They also tried something new with "The Lesson Went Away" -- starting slow and then switching to the fast version. Very cool. I think you can always judge a band by the way they play live and these guys did not disappoint. Even though the room had horrible acoustics and the equipment wasn't really top-quality, they still suonded really good. Stephen motioned me to the front a couple times, but honestly, it didn't make much of a difference when I had been in the front for a couple minutes to snap some photos.
It was interesting listening to Anthony talk about the songs and the stories behind them. A lot of their songs are story-driven, so it was cool to hear about their inspiration and stuff like that. (I am so not articulate.)
Towards the end of the show when Stephen was thanking people, Anthony was goofing around doing yoga poses. Hehehe. The set was something like an hour and half long, but it still felt a bit short -- always a good sign, because you know you're really enjoying it when you want more. (Trust me... I have been unfortunate enough to sit through bands that I thought were just terrible and wish their set would have ended after their first one.)
The only thing that could have made it better? A cover song or two. Seriously. I love when bands do an interesting cover. My very favorite is Rasputina covering Heart's "Barracuda" (or maybe their cover of Led Zepplin's "Rock and Roll")... erm, but that's off topic. Heh.
Oh! At the end of the set, stephen went back to the mic to quickly thank me for signalroom.net because he forgot before. Awww. He even apologized to me after the show, which is silly because I don't expect to be thanked for fannish things, so that was really nice and unexpected. Seriourly, dude, it's okay :)
We left shortly after the set since it was already past midnight and the guys were going to be at the table all weekend anyway.

Woke up at 7am... and went back to sleep because it was way too early. Woke back up at 8:30am. Had breakfast (
athenaktt's mom made scallion pancake & eggs). Got dressed.
athenaktt's friend came over and we all headed out to buy some cheap DVDs. W00t! I picked up some random Chinese movie (looked like a Charlie's Angels knock off), a collection of Michelle Yeoh films, and a Mr. Bean collection! All for like $20. Awesome. Then we went and had dim sum for lunch. Wow, that was way too much food for me in the early morning.
***
Got to the con about 1:30pm. I changed into my Stargate chick outfit in the parking lot. Okay, okay, I already had most of it one -- just need to put the skirt on over the shorts and get the hoslter on. Headed in and got our neon green wrist bands, marking us as too poor to have the upper packages. (Boooooo!) There was an attendant in a suit (Suit!Guy) at the door who asked if I was going to the Stargate con in two weeks. I had to say no, because it was way too far for me to come back.
Hung out at the Signal Room table again. I gave Stephen his prints (Atene, Prospective, and Blackened Heart) as well as the ones for the rest of the band. I also gave him a copy of Tom McRae's "Just Like Blood," because there's nothing like cross-promotion. (Vive la Tomination!) So.. yeah. I got a copy of the new Signal Room CD. *heart* I absolutely love the new color scheme and the artwork on the insert and the lineart on the CD itself. It very neat and, hm, more developed? It's not that I didn't like the last one -- the radar screen is certainly iconic now -- but this just looks more mature. I dunno. I love it, but then again, I'm a sucker for good line art.
We loitered at the Signal Room table some more and eventually Wayne Pygram came by to do whatever it is he needed to do. Stephen gave him the print I'd brought (Paleo) and so I got to talk to Wayne about it for a minute. He asked how I had made it and I explained it was all photographs that I'd taken and manipulated together. He seemed to know a little bit about digital art, so that was cool. He even picked out the nature bits and I told him there was also images of jewelry pieces and stuff like that in there.
After a another few minutes, we decided to head over to the merchant area, which was prett weak. It was just a creation merch table, a long table with signed and unsigned photos and items, and a couple other merchants. One was selling out-of-print soundtracks for exhorbent prices and there was another lady selling jewelry. Virginia Hey had a table set up for her White Flower Lei items and Paul Goddard was next to her with signed copies of his Coleman Smith CDs. La La Land Records was also there with some pretty good con deals. They were out of Battlestar Galactica season 1 OST (it's being reprinted), so I snagged the BSG Season 2 OST and the Peacekeeper Wars OST for $25.
We finally headed into the ballroom for Wayne Pygram and Anthony Simcoe's talk. I kinda can't remember a lot of it because I'm a tool and didn't take notes. Let's see how much I can remember from memory. He, of course, talked about his experience on Farscape. How Eddie's Place in Space is now at the bottom of his sock drawer and will probably never see the light of day, but he is proud of it and loved working with everyone, so maybe some rich Farscape fan will help fund it. There is always one of those questions at a con, and this time around someone asked about the scene in "Scratch 'N Sniff" where Ben was in the panythose -- did Anth have any funny stories about that. Anthony went off on this whole rant about how she just wanted people to picture Ben in stockings. He continued on with this bullshit story about how he gave Ben a wedgie and pulled the hose up to his armpits and then they had to pour gasoline on him and set him on fire and Ben was running around and then the back of his head caught fire and everyone else had to wait around while the "star" had to get take care of and they had to put salve on him. Hahahahaa!! God, all actors should learn to answer dumb questions with insane stories. I don't know if this was the same person, or a different one, but they wanted to know whose idea it was to have D'Argo on top of John when they woke up in the fishbowl. Anth answered that it was probably Ben 'cause he always wants D'Argo and John to get together, but Anthony is like, no, you have to consider that actress Claudia, you know? It was so, so funny.
Anthony pulled out his hysterical "gay" voice anytime a question bout sexual ambiguity came up. I think his mannerisims totally make the whole thing. Am so amused.
At one point, they were asked a question about ADR and Wayne said they'd had to ADR almost all of his scenes because his costume would make this very audiable squeaking sound everytime he moved. Anthony had to chime in saying that Scorpius looks really scary just standing there until his moves and then you just can't help cracking up. He started to do really funny impressions of the costume squeaking (ee eee!!) so that when some later asked about the sexual relationship between Scorpius and Sikozu, Anthony immediately jumped up to imitate Scorpy-sex with squeaky sounds and moaning. Oh. Em. Gee. It continued for the rest of the talk with Anthony making random squeaky noises.
Someone asked Anthony what project he would love to do and he said Firefly! He talked about how much he loved the show and this might be where it turned in to this huge giant rant about how when you have a lot of money, you don't necessarily make a great product -- like Lucas had all this money and then he made Episode I. Bwah!! Which then progressed into his love of gaming and how Lucas/Star Wars is like the PS3 and XBox 360 and Farscape is like the Nintendo wii, which became Anthony gushing about hos much he wants a Wii so he can play the new Zelda game. LOL
Wayne was asked about his appearance on Lost, which I think he said he enjoyed a lot and liked working with the actress who plays Rose. He was also asked about his appearance in Episode III, which he almost didn't do because he didn't think it was something he should do, because, well, "below him" is the wrong term but... that he's not really in that category anymore, I guess. To do random walk on roles for no credit. But, I guess he was encouraged to do it and is sort of okay with the fact that he did. Someone mentioned that he should think of it as a cameo, and that seemed to make him feel better.
Anthony also mentioned that he is working on an internet series similar to Talk Soup (because Anthony loves Talk Soup) but for the SciFi world. It's going to be him with Nathaniel Dean (played Jothee in Peacekeeper Wars), Buck, and some other people. They showed a very short clip at the con, but the first epiosde is up at their site right now. Just go to LiveScifi.com and click View Show. The site is devoid of content aside from the first show, but the layout is pretty cool.
ETA: Anthony also made a crack about how there is no sci fi on the SciFi Channel. No aliens, spaceships, etc. And what is with the wrestling? Too true, man.
After the panel, we headed back to the Signal Room table to have a peek to see who was about before walking back over to Virginia's table. I waited for the crowd to die down before I gave her the print I brought her (For the Dead), which she couldn't really see because she didn't have her reading glasses. Heh. I wanted to buy a meditation CD for my mom, but I guess she'd sold out on Friday. Oh well. I asked if she could sign something for me (because I totally saw her sign something for some one the first time I went to her table) and she might have, but there were Creation people around so she said that Creation didn't want them signing things or taking photos with people, which, yeah, yeah, I get it. Then I went into this huge stupid thing where I was all, "well, I could take a picture of your table and if you happen to be sitting there, oops!" and she says to me, "well aren't you being cheeky." *snort* Whatever. Someone finally said to her that we could take pictures of her, but not with her,so it was all right. I snapped a photo and she asks me if she was in it or if I just took a picture of the table and I said, "of course you're in it!" and showed it to her and she sort of laughed and said, "Oh, I am too!"
I went over to Pual Goddard's table next and chatted with him really quickly, telling him that I'd already purchased the CD before and that I really liked it. He asked where I'd gotten it from (everyone keeps mentioning Terra Firma.. I should probably know what that is...) and I explained about Signal Room and Peachtree and Jean -- who apparently was sitting right next to him because she goes, "I'm Jean!" and I introduced myself as Amezri. Anyway, I gave Paul a print (Remnant), which I think he liked because he took a sec to have a good look at it. He said something really thoughtful about it... like.. it's something ancient or something, but it was related to the name of the piece, so I told him that. Then I asked if I could get a photo of him, because I know Creation won't let us take photos with him, to which he just seemed a it confused because he said he didn't really know what the rules Were. Awww. Anyway, I got a photo of him holding my print. Cool.
Erm... then we went back to the Signal Room table. Again. Now that I think about it, we weer over there a lot, just loitering and I feel like sort of a tool and that we might seem like those fans who are stalking the actors, but in all honesty, I know I'm probably not going to get to talk to the "Headline Guests" because they're on such a tight leash and the fangirls are so crazy, so I'm not actually stalking the table. It's just that they were located in front of the ballroom and I really liked talking to Linda, Stephen, Jennie, and Buck. They were fun! I bought another copy of the new Signal Room CD because it's always good to have an extra, especially of small indie releases.
Anthony came by then and I sort of prompted Stephen to gave him the print I'd brought for him (Clotho). Yeah, yeah, I'm shameless. He got it out of his bag and gave it to Anth who thought it was cool, I think. He shook my hand when Stephen introduced me as the girl who does Signalroom.net. Stephen said the print was for him, and Anth looked a bit surprised but happy and gave me a kiss on the cheek. Heeeeeee!
We stood by the table a bit longer, waiting for the costume contest & talent show to start. I had a couple prods to enter the constume thing, but seriously? Would so not win. Of course, my frist Farscape con, I entered dressed like Alice from Resident Evil. Heh. At least this time I could have pretended to be Vala. Ah well. While we were waiting, I had asked Linda if I could get a photo with her and Stephen and Gerry when Wayne and Anthony weren't around because I know we weren't supposed to take photos with them (Creation rules, blahblahblah). Meanwhile, Anthony was at the empty table signing some mecha character cards designed by Mario. I noticed he was signing with that weird squiggle under his name so I just asked him what it was. He explained it was just a line with hash marks and then the year. Hah! It's so clear now that I know. Mystery solved! They we sort of babbled about signing things and how after you sign a few hundred and you just get so sick of it and your signature gets sloppier, so it's no wonder some peoples' signatures look like a letter and a line. I think Anth might have wandered off after that.
Gerry came by and talked to us then, I think. He was a wee bit...uh... tipsy. We joked abut people giving him beer (a fan had brought him one earlier) and how you can't really refuse to take it because it'd be rude. Then you can't not drink it, because that's a waste of beer. It's all very logical. Really. He also mentioned something about them going to NYC after the con I think. Stephen came over then and told Gerry I run Signalroom.net and he shook my hand again. LOL! Linda came over and we did the photo thing. It was funny. Gerry wanted a photo taken with his camera, so we did two of those, and I got a photo with Gerry, Stephen, Linda, and
athenaktt. I'm sure people walking by were like, "the hell is going on?"
Finally, we wander in to the costume contest because we notice the Lady Pilot on the stage. Totally impressive. I got there in time to snap some photos of the entries. Sat in the back once that was over because we are dorks and we wanted to heckle the talent. Heh. The SpongeJohn Farscape and the Aeryn Possible parodies were my favorite.
Then it was time for the DRD race. Meager showing this year with only four (?) DRDs. I snuck some video. It was sort of amusing and it makes me want to try my hand at a DRD as well. Which I really, really shouldn't.
The DRD race was pretty much the last con event we cared to attend. On the way to the restrooms we stopped by the Signal Room table again. Linda and Jennie were there, as well as a girl I didn't know. I asked Linda if she'd ever worked with the food cubes on the show and she told me that was all the art department, so she hadn't. Well.... I pulled out my bag of haw slices anyway. I explained that they were a pretty traditional Chinese treat and asked if either of them wanted to try any. Jennie was brave enough to go first and then Linda had one. It was sort of funny watching them react to the taste, which sort of hits you a little bit after you've chewed it. I ended up leaving them with a pile of haw slices. I don't know what happened to them after I left that night. We talked about Asian food places (Sydney has a lot of them, Florida doesn't) and then got on the subject of vegemite and how it's supposedly banned in the US now. As in, customs is confiscating it, but the FDA won't acknowledge that there is a ban on it because of the folate content. That of course led to a discussion of marmite and other Aussie food stuffs I'd not heard of. So totally random and amusing. Anyway. We left the con after that fun conversation, so it was nice point to end the night on.
athenaktt and Andrew took me to Fry's (one with an alien invasion theme), where we tried to find a copy of Stargate SG-1 season 9, since they were on sale for $20. Alas, after a stop at a different Fry's (with an industrial theme), we came away empty handed. Well, actually, I did pick up season 2 & 3, which were also on sale, so it wasn't a total loss. We stopped and had dinner before heading back to
athenaktt's to watch The Princess Bride because Andrew hadn't seen it before. *boggle*
Oh! I'd gotten a call from
lilorphanannie as we were heading back to
athenaktt's. She's going to meet us at the convention on Sunday. Rawk!

Gerry wanted a photo taken with his camera, so we did two of those, and I got a photo with Gerry, Stephen, Linda, and
Finally, we wander in to the costume contest because we notice the Lady Pilot on the stage.
Oh! I'd gotten a call from

That's the <a href="http://www.terrafirmascapers.com>Terra Firma message Board</a> where Jean's a member and posted a thread about Paul's CD - which he then joined and kibitzed with fans on. He's Paul_G over there - which I thought was terribly original of him. XD -Liza, "BlueBanikBaby"

Date: 2006-11-14 03:38 am (UTC)That SHOULD have been "That's the Terra Firma (http://www.terrafirmascapers.com) message board where Jean's a member and posted an announcement link about Paul's CD - which Paul then joined and kibitzed with fans on."
Arrrrrrrrrrgh. I blame the mind-numbing brain waves in the air at the Sears call centre.
