Dear Jon Stewart,

I love you and your show. Your political commentary makes me laugh and laugh.

Luv,
Me.

Dear Stephen Colbert,

Your show is not funny.

That is all,
Me.

I'm enjoying Colbert's show, but that's mostly because I've developed an appreciation for his persona as "the kind of extreme right-wing commentator who hurts his side far more than he helps it."

Ah, yes, I get that that's what he's doing, but I've always appreciated it more in small doses -- like his 3-5 minutes segments on daily Show versus a half hour.

I think part of it is that the Daily Show has Jon Stewart serving as sort of the "voice of the viewer," and with him there snarking and making faces and asking pointed questions they can get away with being a bit subtler because he's there to highlight the ridiculous. On Colbert's show it's got to be done in broad enough strokes that as many viewers as possible are going to be getting it -- which means it's not as much fun as the Daily Show for people who don't need things underlined...
