I was going to write about this later becuse I'm still feeling really nauseous, but I'm sitting in front of my computer already so what the hell.

Wow, okay, I started this an hour ago and totally just blanked out. Uhm. Less dizzy now.

I arrived at the hospital around 9:30am. Did the routine paperwork, blah blah. Then got shuffled to a waiting room in the Neurology department. Waited there and then got called in by the technician, John. He sort of reminded me of my Help Desk boss, Jeff. His manner of speaking and his overall pleasantness, which was good because the test? Not really fun.

I never had a chance to look up what it was I was taking, so all I knew was that it was an ENG test and it was supposed to measure dizziness. I told him as much and he said that it was probably better I didn't look because I'd have been overwhelmed by information and such. Yay?

Anyway, the first part of the test was just machine calibration it seems. He attached the electrodes to my face and had me follow a bunch of red lights on the screen. Easy enough. Then I had to do a series of exercises like laying back, turning my head, sitting up; all pretty routine things. Easy. Not head-spinning stuff. Yeah, that was still the easy part.

The actual test it seems is where they stick a tube in your ear and flood your ear canal with water. The first is with water 10 degress colder than body temperature and then again with water 10 degrees warmer than body temperature -- both ears, one at a time. Okay, yeah, that was really, really not fun. First, the cold water going in was... not really painful, but it felt sharp if that makes sense. There's about 10 seconds of that and then non-stop head spinning. I swear I wanted to vomit. Anyway, the computer is measuring the way my eye moves and how my brain resonds and whatnot. The really bizarre thing is that amidst the dizziness and the silly questions he's asking me to keep my mind occupied (Name a state that begins with H...) all of a sudden he starts going, "wow, you have a really strong mind," and I'm just going "wtf, dude, I am so trying not to throw up."

After the cold water test in both ears and the hot water test in my left ear, he shows me the print out so I can see what he means because yeah, I don't know. Basically when I'm getting the spinning feeling from the inner ear imbalance, my eyes are doing the standard movements -- whatever those are -- and the graph spikes. Well, apparently even while he's trying to keep my brain distracted and supposedly preventing my brain from correcting the spinning, my brain is all "hold up, spinning, must stop" and corrects my eye movement. He says it's pretty rare to be spinning that badly and have your brain suddenly snap your eyes back to a normal movement. So that's what he meant. I thought that was sort of cool, but really I'm thinking that who cares that my brain is correcting my eye movement -- I still feel like I'm going to die.

He ended up having to do that cold water in my right ear again because the results from the first go were not really right (he didn't get enough water in it or something) nd almost two hours later I was done. OMG. I still feel sort of sick and dizzy, but the guy was nice and we talked about some stupid stuff to keep my brain from totally exploding. As part of the standard "where did you go to school, blah blah blah" conversation topics, he finds out I'm a web designer and says that he'd be looking for one in the next year or two as he wants to open a bed & breakfast and would like a website for it. So he might look me up. Cool.

I'm not expecting anything from this test. The guy seemed to think the result was normal and he's so impressed by the way my brain reacted that he's going to be fairly amused when he points it out to the neurologist. *facepalm* Which of course means that they're going to be all "oh wow cool. hey, there's nothing wrong here," I'm sure. Ugh. So... next test? But not now. Right now I'm am still really sick and feel like vomiting.

Uh. In other news, linky fandomy things:

People should wander over to [livejournal.com profile] lierdumoa's and check out her If I Wrote You season 1 SGA video. It's really, really lovely.

Rainbow Sun Francks is an SGA fan boy. Who loves Beckett.

[livejournal.com profile] voleuse passes along a Pearl Harbor easter egg that might be worth borrowing the DVD for: In that gag reel, Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett re-enact a touching moment from Armageddon. They do so by Ben shoving animal crackers down Josh's pants ... (omg read more here)

The recutting of movie trailers continues with Cabin Fever redux, turning the horror film into a melodrama. Apparently commissioned by the film's director.

Two new movies coming out this Friday that I want to see: Domino (starring Keira Knightley as a bounty hunter) and Elizabethtown (Orlando Bloom & Kirsten Dunst; heard this was actually good).

Am torrenting SGA season 1 for [livejournal.com profile] shoemaster. 66 hours?! *pokes it*

Wow that test does not sound fun at all. Who even thinks up those kinds of things?

And thanks for the torrent! Hopefully it's lying about the length of time there...

That's a ridiculous amount of time. Only took 12 hours when I got SGA season 1.

Tests sound horrible. *hugs*

Yeah, my firewall and router don't play nice with the torrent and wireless. Meh. It's okay. It ended up like 36 hours or something :)

Glad to hear that you have a strong brain!

Mostly I'm commenting because someone else on my friends list mentioned the PH easter egg but given she has a number of LJ entries that fall into the category of fantasizing about certain actors (including missing scenes/slashy edits of movies they were in) I took it as her being funny again. I'm astonished to discover that it was a legit announcement.

And now I see that the "more details" link was back to [livejournal.com profile] baylorsr's post. Um. To which I was referring as assuming she was being funny again.

Well, she's got screencaps, and I've never even seen the regular PH, let alone gotten a DVD and gone egghunting.
