Patrick Stewart talking to Ricky Gervais. Too funny. (direct link to sound clip)

via [livejournal.com profile] devildoll: Minimate Madness! So. Fracking. Funny. Reminds me that I still need to add some Minimates to my collection. Like the LoTR ones.

Meh. So I'm back from the doctor. Neurologist said that all the response tests he gave me came out normal - so he doesn't really see anything wrong on the surface. He's ordered an ENG to see about my dizziness... and then proceeded to tell me that he's concerned that I don't have any goals - that even his terminally ill patients all have goals. WTF, man. If I were terminally ill and had a few years to live, maybe I would have big life goals -- because my life would be completely shortened and completeing college would be a life goal. No disrespect to people who know/are terminally, but geez, man. Just because I don't have any long term life plans doesn't mean I'm ready to lay down and die or totally made up my illness. Yeah, i left that office feeling real great. On the plus side, the doctor was real nice and he does seem thorough - he's going to double check with my GP about some tests I've had done and whatnot. And the ENG will be scheduled some time in the next two weeks.

Stopped at Target where they had yarn for $1! And one that's similar in color to the scarf Vala had in.. uh.. that episode where she had the silly gold scarf. So I'll be knitting one. Heh. [livejournal.com profile] queenmaab - the Target by my house has bamboo knitting needles for $1 in a yellowish wood color and stained purple. Various widths. Should I pick some up for you?

While at Target, I also bout a 10 gallon container to put all my yarn in. Uhm. That might not be big enough. Heh. Oops. Well, guess I'll go organize that stuff now.

That seems like a totally stupid thing to say to a patient. That's almost as good as the doctor that I used to go to that told me a good way to lose weight would be to skip breakfast.

Yeah, I know. I understand if I were terminally ill and had no desires, but I expect to live a long, full life so I'm taking it easy. Geez.

That's almost as good as the doctor that I used to go to that told me a good way to lose weight would be to skip breakfast.

Uh. That's... a special kind of genius. :-P

That's why I switched doctors and went to the one that got me on the sleep apnea track which has since led me to feeling a whole lot better.

Target is awesome! But it's also a money pit XD Every time I go in there I walk about $40 poorer.

At least it's only $40. I can sometimes lose up and over $100. It hook you in and drag more money outta you with stuff you really need or just desperately want.

Oh, no, dude. That's at least $40. I can spend way more, yeah. It's dangerous!

That's what's annoying me about my health class -- one project is to set a self-improvement goal and have a wellness journal recording our progress towards it and a behavior change contract and everything. And it annoys me in the same way New Year's resolutions annoy me, of, "Where do you get off telling me I need to find an improvement to make in myself right now?!" I'm using my exercise thing as a goal, but it's just what I've been doing for several years now and I'm not actually changing anything. (One of the lines in the course textbook was about people who don't live life to the fullest until they find out they have a terminal illness. :-/ Which is probably where your doc was getting it from.)

Dammit, now you make me want to stop by Target after work, because I don't recall ever having checked their yarn selection before. (Or realized that they had a yarn selection.) I need plastic containers, too -- not just for yarn but for books and action figures.

Yeah, I know. I mean, if I knew I was going to kark it next year, I would be doing a lot of other things. But realistically, I can't live like someone who is terminally ill.

Target doesn't usually carry yarn - but they had a bunch in their $1 section. Must be some sort of weird seasonal overstock item from somewhere.

I think the problem is that people need to A) learn from the past, B) enjoy living in the present, and C) prepare for the future, and what often happens is they get hung up in just one tense and have to be reminded to attend to another. I don't know whether the message is almost always just one of the above because it's coming to someone who needs a particular kick in the pants to deal with another time frame (or from someone trying to pass on their own hard-learned lesson about not getting hung up on one of them), or just because we're used to thinking in simple platitudes and it's too "complicated" for the lowest common denominator entertainment is aimed at to try to think of three things at the same time.

I looked at Target and wandered through the whole store, though I found the yarn display as soon as I walked in and just had to check to see if they had anything else. Given that it was a display of A) novelty yarns, B) bamboo needles, and C) wee project books giving four patterns that just happened to use straight needles and novelty yarns, I think it was less a spillover item and more an attempt to cash in on the knitting craze with something small and cheap.
