zox @ rev hall; stargates; ringers; work
Sep. 10th, 2005 01:02 amJust got back from seeing ZOX at Revolution Hall. Decent venue. Tom could play here :-P The opening band, Morning Wood, was really shitty. I'd never heard any of their songs before so I don't know if that's what they sound like or what, but.. one of their songs was just them spelling out the name of their band. Good god.
While seated at the bar, Spencer Swain, ZOX's violinist, came up a couple times to buy drinks. I... had nothing intelligent to say, but Matt chatted with him briefly, including teasing him about not getting free drinks.
After a bit of sound checking, ZOX finally took the stage. Awesome. I wish I had gotten better photos, but the light effects that were so awesome for the set totally did not get along with my camera. I also tried to phone post but it seems that didn't work so well :-P It was just all really excellent and the band rocks and Spencer rocks. Heeee. We were on the second floor for ZOX's set, so you could see the crowd and this one woman was really distracting. She was right up against the stage and kept reaching over trying to touch the violinist and the lead singer/guitarist while also shouting things to them. What sort of compulsion is that? Eeesh.
I think maybe I'll upload a few sample tracks for you guys. There are a couple songs from the new album that you'd probably love because Spencer does some crazy violin playing similar to a certain cello player in Tom's band. Uh. Also met a lot of Oneontans there that Matt knew. It was weird. Is this what happens when you graduate from Oneonta?!
While I had no problem finding Matt's place in broad daylight, the fact that my night vision sucks pretty much guaranteed that I would get lost on the way hope. First I went th wrong way up Rt. 9, then going the right way, I missed the first turn, then the later traffic circle, and then finally a turn that I could have taken to the airport. I ended up going the long way around, but a route I knew well enough to drive with no worries. Oh well. At least I'm home.
Clearly, I've missed my Stargates. Atlantis is on right now, but I'm holding off until I can see the whole thing from the beginning. [OMG dodging "Conversion" spoilers on the flist!] In fact, my torrents are both going at a pretty steady pace. Should have them by morning. (CJ - did you want to snag again?) I think I'll catch the second run of Battlestar Galactica because Lucy Lawless is guesting, but at the same time I can't be bothered to torrent it.
In related news,
workerb has passed along that the Stargate Atlantis: The Official Companion, Season 1 will have a foreword written by Joe Flanigan. So yeah, clearly, I will be buying that. Hey, at least it's only $15.
Strangely, my cellphone has just lost the service area. I have no idea why. *checks mom's phone* Uhm. Okay, the entire network seems to have died. Very weird.
Hm. Ringers, the LoTR documentary, will be going up for pre-order next week. Do I want one? Hmm.
Had talked to the boss this afternoon. Working all day Sunday - maybe. And unsure about Monday and Tuesday. She will call me. Ugh. Come on.
