on permanent accounts

The big news now is that permanent accounts are getting bumped up to 100 userpics. This means, I'm assuming, all permanent accounts and not just the ones being purchased this time. Don't know for sure, but a few others seem to think so too.

Yes, $150 is a lot of money. And I'm sure eventually it'll be available as a paid feature. The thing I don't understand (from skimming the comments in the above linked entry) is why people are getting so pissy that a permanent account is getting something a paid account is not. If I were going to throw in for a permanent account, I damn will better have something I can hold over the heads of regular paid users - that's why I shelled out the bucks. Well, that and the fact that I wouldn't have to pay for LJ ever again.

That's the thing -- being a paid member is optional. You don't have to do anything. But being a paying member anywhere will always get you priviledges. It's sort of wrong, but that's how it works. If I'm paying for the top tier, I don't want the people below me to have access to the same options and getting to pay less money.

The bitching at the LJ staff and demanding this and that... I dunno. Maybe, yeah, that's how permanent members are getting the 100 userpics now but to me it just seems almost petty and ungrateful. Not really the people who are gathering petitions for change -- because those people are actually forming a plan with intent to present it rationally. And I'm not even really talking about the people who are bitching in their own LJ because, hey, it's your LJ - you bitch all you want. I'm talking about the people who comment in the news LJ and just spam the entry and the staff with nasty comments. Geez, seriously. WTF? If you hate LJ that much take your business elsewhere - set up your own blog.

Now I've suddenly lost my train of thought and I'm probably just being bitchy, so whatever. What the hell do I care anyway? I already have a permanent account and I've gotten plenty of use out of it. Hell, I remember when I first jumped on LJ and was happy using 3 icons and the generator layout. I'd be lying if I said I'd be okay going back to that; LJ is partially about the shiny and pretty now. However, what I get most out of LJ is sharing interests with people and making new friends.

And having a place to post my bitchy rants.

Wording Wordy McWord Word! The permanent accounts have been on the same level as the paid accounts ever since paid accounts were granted 15 userpics, it's not like they're suddenly being ripped off or anything.

I figure if I'm patient, eventually they'll give paid members more icon space. I don't feel the "drop $150 on a livejournal!" urge even with 100 icons offered up. *shrug*

I remember there was something floating around about making the icon allowance limit a specific bitsize (unless I hallucinated all this) instead of a number of icons. That way you could make lots of little icons or a couple of big ones.

I've wanted a permanent account since the last time they had a sale and B'fly got one. I certainly use it enough, and I regularly don't stay as a free account for long. But they always have the sales when I'm at my poorest. *lol* Five bucks every couple of months I can wrangle. 150 at once, not even.

I had something intelligent to say, but all the blood just rushed to my stomach in a desperate attempt to make food appear there, so all my brilliant ideas have gone poof.

ditto to what elven_wolf said about them only having the perm acct sales when i'm at my poorest. i would pay for one. i LIKE lj and being about to have paid features. i have no problem paying them to keep up the good work. whenever i've had problems, they've attended to them rather speedily. i'm glad that they've got more bells and whistles, and i understand the reason for hiking it up a bit...

but 100 userpics? is that really necessary? that's wicked overkill. i mean, i could likely fill up 25 with all the icons i would ever really use with any frequency. but 100? whoa.

Yeah, seriously. I mean, I've got my 50 spaces filled but I really don't use all of them, you know? 100 is just... not necessary. It's probably because greatestjournal gives you like 2000 slots or some silly amount. Meh.

I've had a permanent account for a few years now but that was only so I wouldn't have to keep on paying for 'years'. That'd get expensive fast.
But 100 userpics? DUDE! I can't even think up 50! What the hell? Who actually USES all their userpics? Geez.
Dammit, I'm gonna have to get creative...

Yeah, exactly. My slots are all filled, but I really only use 10 or so regularly.. the rest are just filler.
