Have things to do today. Don't really want to do them. Shouldn't be a surprise.

Also. I want cake. Mmm.. cake. Unfortunately, I don't want to go to the store. Hrm. Maybe I can find ingredients around house to make a cake from scratch. That's... a lot of work, though.

Here's a recipe my mom made up from ingredients we usually have on hand around the house. Measurments are approximate, "bowl" meaning ordinary rice bowl you'd find at home.

Steamed Oatmeal Cake
2 bowls oatmeal
1/2 bowl flour
4 heaping tablespoons brown sugar
2-3 handfuls of raisins, walnuts (broken to bits)-add more of what you like
optional: pine nuts, white sesame seeds, chinese red raisins (go gee)

1. Place all ingredients in steamable bowl
2. Mix/stir ingredients together
3. Add 1 1/2 bowls of water and mix thoroughly
4. Steam in rice cooker (add water to rice cooker); remove when done
*to make cleanup easier, line bowl with aluminum foil (also helps conduct heat)

Not so much work really. :)

Ooo... thanks! I'll have to give this a try! I'd actually found this recipe before I got offline:

Quick and Easy Chocolate Brownie Pudding Cake

1 cup sugar
2/3 cup flour
2/3 cup cocoa
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 eggs
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup boiling water, with
3 tablespoons sugar, added

1. Boil water with 3 tbsp of sugar and set aside.
2. Combine all dry ingredients (first 5 ingredients) in a bowl, then add eggs, melted butter and vanilla until well blended, mixture will be thick.
3. Butter a 9 inch microwavable pan or tupperware, even if its a tad smaller it's ok.
4. Spread mixture evenly into the buttered pan.
5. Very slowly pour water into the center of the mixture and do not stir!
6. Cover well, with plastic wrap or lid.
7. Cook in microwave on regular power for 5 minutes, check it to make sure it's set and if not put back in microwave for a couple more minutes.
8. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with your favorite toppings.
9. Enjoy!

chinese red raisins (go gee)

aka wolfberries. I never got used to the taste of them. blech.

what an interesting translation. i wonder why they're called that.

i didn't like them when i was younger, but for some reason, they grew on me, especially in chicken soup. maybe all the years of mom saying: they're good for your eyes finally sank in.

now chocolate....i never had a problem with enjoying chocolate. :)
