Left work 5:20pm. Went to Circuit City. Found lots of copies of RotK: EE, but no gift sets. Hunted for an employee. Was told they were sold out. Dude. WTF. Poorest. Planning. Ever. Decided to go to Best Buy - spent 15 minutes trying to find a parking space. First in front of Best Buy, then near Best Buy, then finally on the other sideof the mall where I always park anyway. Braved the crowds and avoided annoying booth people on the way. Got to Best Buy and got The PRECIOUS. One of the employees was filling a display and I made a comment about how Circuit City was out of them and that was lame. He was surprised. Also snagged a gift for the bro and an extra DVD for.. someone. Spotted the Nettwerk "Maybe This Christmas" (sans "Tree") CD, which had a lot of nifty songs I've heard and have been wanting on CD (Ben Folds Xmas angst!), but didn't really have the money because of the Precious. Will check Amazon or SecondSpin for those.

Creepy contracted concrete people have not shown up today. Hopefully they won't.

Today I got mail from buhfly and superswank! Thank you both for the pretty cards!

I went to Circuit City (because I have an account there) and they had like fifty zillion copies of the EE but none of the gift set version. Had I realized I'd wind up hitting Wal-Mart to get my copy, I'd have just gone there instead and saved a trip.

Yeah, exactly. They had TONS of the regular EE, but no gift sets. It was pretty lame. I'm guessing they only got in a few. Feh.

The guy I asked at Circuit City gave no indication they'd stocked any of the gift sets at all. Even at Wal-Mart, where the past two years they'd had a massive display of both kinds, didn't seem to have that many gift sets. Maybe they didn't sell as many last year as hoped and so this year just ordered less? Cause I gotta admit, an extra $30-35 for a DVD (that may turn out to be available for sale on its own, as with the National Geographic special DVD from the FotR:EE) and a figurine is the kind of thing you have to be a mega-fan to go for.
