Deady Plush Prototype
Apr. 9th, 2004 09:05 pmI've been wanting to make a plushie for awhile, but never found the right character.. or at least one I felt I could make without deforming too badly. Thought Deady would be pretty well suited..
Deady is a character by Voltaire. Check out the site for info and images.
This afternoon I printed out some patterns, tweaked them, added a few things and dug out some scrap fabric. Which is why my Deady is the wrong color. I ordered some felt in the right colors though. I want to make a few changes before I work on the final one anyway.

With a CD for size comparison.
I think it looks okay overall. The one issue I'm going to have when I get the felt is the stiffness of the material and how much of a pain in the ass it's going to be to turn the pieces. I might try making another using the Japanese UFO catcher method, which works better with felt, I guess.

My color-retarded Deady by his-self. The head's a bit on the small side. That or the ears are way too big...

Close up of the cut outs. I didn't have fabric glue, so, uh... I used rubber cement ^_^*
And speaking of ghetto material substitutions... I didn't have any polyfill or batting, so he's stuffed with a plastic shopping bag.

Date: 2004-04-09 06:13 pm (UTC)Hopefully I'll work on/finish the final version as soon as I get the fabric. I think I have craft ADD - if I don't finish it right away, it's likely I won't ever.

DEADY plush
Date: 2004-04-11 08:14 am (UTC)But he's pink! AAAAHHHHHH!!!
heh hehh...I know, I know.. this is just a prototype.
I'm just kidding. ; )
My only commment would be that Deady has a slightly
different head to body ratio.
His head should be about 50% bigger than it is...
I'm just figuring this all out myself as well..
I guess I really didn't spend a lot of time
drawing and 'getting to know' Deady before I started
the graphic novel... so he's not as consistently
drawn through out the book as he should be..
But then, I am a Betty Boop fan... and one of the things
I find really endearing about those old cartoons is that
it seemed they could never get her straight! She sometimes
looks very different from episode to episode.
Anyway, GREAT WORK!!!
