Woke up about an hour late today, so had 30 mins to get the dogs out and fed and get myself showered and dressed. Somehow I still managed to leave for work on time. Which, whatever because it was pretty boring. Maura, Ian, and I were pretty cracked out for about 30 minutes. I don't know what was in the ventilation system, but we were all seriously acting like we were on drugs. Good thing Rosemary was the opening manager. After my shift I stopped over in Music and picked up "The Ice Storm." Had a quick chat with Ian about foreign films because I was looking for "Returner," which we had but was way too expensive. Mmm.. foreign films. Contemplating it, though, since with my discount it brings the price about even with DeepDiscountDVD and other places I've checked so far. Hmm.. maybe next week. Gotta save up for I-Con.

This will probably be my last comment on the Super Bowl Jackson debacle, but it has to be posted because Frank Rich needs to be thanked for writing this article: The Super Bowl of hypocrisy:

There are plenty of Americans to laugh at, starting with the public itself. If we are to believe the general outcry, America's families were utterly blindsided by the Janet-Justin pas de deux while watching an entertainment akin to "Little Women." As Laura Bush put it, "Parents wouldn't know to turn their television off before that happened." They wouldn't? In the two-plus hours "before that happened," parents saw not only the commercials featuring a crotch-biting dog, a flatulent horse and a potty-mouthed child but also the number in which the crotch-grabbing Nelly successfully commanded a gaggle of cheerleaders to rip off their skirts.

And from Bill Maher: Just Give Us the Tools, We'll Take it From There - if you're going to send our troops to Iraq, you could at least, you know, give them protective gear.

I got a lovely surprise in the mail today. Truffles from [livejournal.com profile] jen_ella! Soooo yummy ^_^ And my only V-Day gift this year, so thank you! *hugs*

Need to stop thinking about the thing I sent to Weta 'cause thinking about it makes me nervous. Like I should have done this, or I should have done that. Argh. It's done. I finally did it and at least I can say that much.

I should go knit and finish that scarf. Then I can start another one. And when I get better, I can make them for gifts or to sell. Maybe. I don't think anyone would want to buy a crappy scarf from me though. Heh. Right now I'm slowly getting through comments, so if you get replies to something you've left me weeks ago.. that's why. I'm slow ^_^*

Tired. Think I might go to bed soon.

My internet is lagging or something. *pokes AIM* Actually, I need, like, a life. Think I'm gonna go have a truffle.

I've never actually made a scarf -- went straight from the little swatches I learned on directly to afghans. Now I'm working on striped stockings. It's fun so far, but I don't know if I'll wind up with anything wearable or not. Though I have the urge to take the yarn and instructions to work for when I'm bored...

I think I could do an afghan (it would take me years...) but the whole stitching in the round thing baffles me.

I did my first afghan in a month -- but that was during summer vacation back during my high school years, when I had that kind of free time available, and when I wasn't bored with knitting and so did it all the time. I've got one in progress that I started years ago and then dropped after a bit due to boredom and/or lack of free time that I was inclined to spend with my hands full of knitting, but I restarted it a few months back. It's on hold again with the whole striped stockings project, which I think I could actually do pretty quickly if I wasn't having to unravel and reknit over and over trying to get the gauge big enough.

As for knitting in the round, I suck at edges and this is kind of handy being able to work in a spiral. One can do that on circular knitting needles but I tend to just go back and forth on those -- they're handy for making a whole afghan just in one big piece, though. Now that I've gotten the hang of working with double-ended needles (though not the hang of figuring out what gauge a particular size needle will give me) I'm really enjoying them.
