2004 movies; pan; charlie rose
Jan. 16th, 2004 07:07 pm'allo. Anti-social mood today.
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow looks like an interesting movie. Here's hoping there was some sort of licensing for them to use the Stargate theme for the trailer :-P
Thanks to
crzydemona - Van Helsing Trailer! Eeeeee! The vampires look wicked and of course there's a strong female lead. And Hugh so looks like Vampire Hunter D. Love it.
2004 is going to kick ass in the movie area.
This is random, but apparently there was 3 hours of footage cut from "Peter Pan." There's a small e-mailing campaign trying to get Universal to release an extended DVD or a 2-disc set. I've e-mailed. Give us a hand, eh? No fan girly screaming, just nice letters ^_^
For anyone who missed Elijah, Sean, & Andy on Charlie Rose, there is an audio file at the Charlie Rose site. Can't download it though. Argh.

I also enjoyed the "Sky Captain..." trailer. Very art deco and "Metropolis" (leaning more towards Osamu Tezuka's as opposed to Fritz Lang's).

Date: 2004-01-19 12:51 pm (UTC)Well, yes, of course there was, just as there's licensing to use any piece of copyrighted music, be it Hans Zimmer's "Submarine Choral" from Crimson Tide (which has been used in so many trailers I have lost count), that bit from Aliens where the metal things are going TING! TING! TINGTING! over and over again (you know, the bit where Ripley is driving the big Marine truck through the tunnels), the "Ode to Joy" from Beethoven's 9th, or the latest tune from Smashmouth, by which I mean goddamn "All Star" again.
Unless the music is really, really amazing and a signature part of the film (cf. John Williams' scores, and even then not always), trailer editors traditionally use music from other sources because trailer music isn't something most audiences pay attention to, but instead supplants itself in the subconscious as a shortcut to what they expect the film will be like. IE, for Sky Captain, they wanted something "adventurey", and the Stargate theme is certainly that.
(This is much the same reason every kiddie-teen movie for the last two years has used "All Star" in their trailer, because it's rebellious and hip without being dangerous, or at least it's shorthand for rebellious and hip without being dangerous.)
