We left off with stabbed Vaughn. I think maybe Sydney could have found a better - less fatal - spot and not hit so close to the lung. She's a superspy for crying out loud - surely she had basic anatomy lessons. Also, 3 hours later and it's broad daylight. Right. Yeppers, Sydney planted the tracker on Vaughn, like we all knew she would. Spy!Daddy really doesn't care that Vaughn's bleeding to death, in fact, I think that secretly he hopes that Vaughn's already bled out by the time anyone's found him. All he wants are the weapons. Of course, he's comforting Sydney with a verbal pat, "sweetheart, we'll find Vaughn." Aww! Note the term of endearment - wouldn't have heard that last year.
No opening credits this week. Must've needed the extra 30 seconds for... something.
So... Sark is getting paid in wine? I don't get it. Someone getting him a glass because chugging it from the bottle is just vulgar and I never would have pictured Sark doing that kind of thing. He's cultured, damn it.
Look, it's Elektra! I mean Julia. I mean, Sydney. Right. Whatever. Did anyone else notice that Jen's eyes are a weird color? I know they're supposed to be brown but they looked almost blueish purple this whole episode and it's freaking me out. I'm not sure if it's the lighting or the film processing, but yeah, her eyes do not look brown. Nitpick.
Weiss finds Vaughn. Yay. But why is their blood all over the side of his face? Collapsed lung factoring in? I dunno.
Poor Lauren. I liked that they showed her staying with Vaughn, not that I expected her to be elsewhere, but with all the Syd/Vaughn crap, it's nice to see. Who was the ass who wrote down the false report and then showed it to Lauren? During the whole Sydney/Lauren scene was found it really weird that Syd kept referring to him as "Michael" because I've never heard her call him anything but Vaughn, even when they were together. I guess maybe she was doing it for Lauren's sake. The only time she switches to Vaughn is when she tells Lauren that she had to stab him to save him.
People who are bitching that Lauren should have been grateful that Sydney saved Vaughn's life - shut up. It's perfectly understandable that she's upset that her husband was stabbed, left to bleed to death, and currently in a coma. Was it Syd's fault? I would say yes. If Sydney didn't come back, Vaughn would still be a teacher. Hell, even if he did go back to the CIA, he wouldn't have gotten mixed up in the Simon debacle. So, yeah, Lauren has a right to be mad at Sydney.
Geekitude: their pages were "47911" *g*
Dixon. You're boring.
Sydney and Lauren on a mission. Together. Heee!
Daddy!Bristow came up with the Worst.Plan.Ever. Hello! Simon is not some stupid lackey and a lame accent and glasses are not going to fool him. Hell, it wouldn't fool anyone. I think maybe you left your uber-spy skillz in your jail cell. Go back and get them, please.
When Jack says stabbing Vaughn was the right thing, I think he meant, that it was the right thing, but she should have stabbed him a couple more times just to make sure.
36 hour induced coma? Oy.
The scene on the plane. Okay, yeah, Lauren, I get that you're protective, but why don't you convince hubby to leave or get transferred yourself? [I know he wouldn't and she wouldn't. Just saying.] And Syd... go out and get some friends. And CIA - you need a fresh set of agents in that office. I'm serious.
Jack.. when I said go back and get your brains,it wasn't a suggestion. "Julia says you're the best" - hello! Biggest tip off ever! *sigh*
The Mexico City abduction of Slaone was so planned. He didn't even look surprised - unless he was playing it really cool, which I guess could have been the case. Hey Syd - keep shooting the vehicle that's speeding away. Good idea. Lauren's the smart one - she gets the car. During the whole chase, Sydney looks a bit paniced that this non-rated chick is driving like a maniac after the bad guys. Mrs. Vaughn, however, has some really slick moves. Simon calling Julia mid-chase was great - reminded me of those imes when Francie called Syd mid-mission. Of course, Lauren is driving like a manic going "wtf?? get off the phone!!"
Now, I don't know a lot about high speed chases, but a) turning around while driving for more than a second and b) taking your hands off the wheel seem very, very bad. Oh well - Lauren still has smooth moves. Hit the breaks and cut right?? I'm pretty sure that even with training and practice I couldn't have done anything near that. Lauren's giddy adrenaline rush smile afterwards? Hell yeah. Riding the high, Lauren squeezes between the truck and the building, something even Sydney didn't want her to do. syd thinks she's nuts now, I'm sure.
I thought Bomani was going to cut Slaone's arm off. He should have.
Right, so after their first mission, Lauren decides that she'll keep Syd around so she can go on death-defying missions. Okay.
Vaughn waking up in the hospital and seeing syd there - it screams dream sequence now that I'm paying more attention to the cinematography. It's the soft focus I guess. Anyway, I'm glad it was a dream becuase if Sydney didn't stab him, I would have. You're married, you schmuck! One question though... why did Sydney stab him with a vegetable peeler? Look! It's a peeler! WTF? Ah, but it's okay because he wakes up and Lauren is there. Now don't you feel like the ass, Vaughn?
Sloane convinces Bomani to let him go and he stil has Yakuza ties among everything else. Listen, he might not be in charge of the Covenant, but he's up to something. Now he wants to be a double agent. Say whaaa? Bullshit.
Marshall! Holy crap how dorky is his high school picture? Classic. He learned to count cards! XD "I had a lot of free time in high school." Verra nice.
Lauren's being all nice and telling Syd to see Vaughn. Which, okay, I guess after the Mexico City mission, she probably thinks it was some sort of girl bonding thing. Sorry, hate to tell you but Syd's still oggling your husband.
I had a tiny bit of hope that Sark was trying to help Sydney, but he just blew Jack's really lame cover, thus blowing the lid on Sydney. Of course, maybe he knew that Jack would just kill Simon. That removes one of the Covenant's players. We'll see...
OMG. Jack should have just shot Simon when he showed up wearing that hideous hat. What's going on this season? Bad music. beardzilla. That HAT. Anyway... Simon, not wise to the ways of the Bristow, makes lewd comments about Sydney. Bad idea. Okay, while I agree Simon needed to be shot, maybe Jack could have hit something non-vital. He really did nee the guy to find out what "Julia" had been up to for the last couple years.
And the fun begins.. a casino in Osaka.. with Marshall as a rich Texan XD I would have stopped and stared at him too. Okay, the Gambler remix.. is painful. Texas gambler Marshall is funny though. And when he gets busted for cheating at cards.. and slaps Sydney on the ass!! She definitely gives him the Bristow Glare of Death.
The virus.. that he downloaded and disabled and reuploaded... that was fast. Can I have that system?
Sark, honey. Under the desk.. They are under the damn desk! For a supersexyspy, you really should notice these things. Or... maybe he did know and chose to ignore it. No, no I really think they wrote him that dumb that he didn't notice two full grown human beings scrunched under the desk. [facepalm]
The gang at the hospital? Very cute and almost normal. They lit the room to make it warm and cozy. Weiss tells the story of this girl named April First.. and Vaughn takes a sip of beer. While I don't think that he should be drinking after he woke up from an induced coma, I don't think a sip would have killed him. I liked seeing all four of them just kind of haning out telling stupid stories. It works. The friendship chemistry is there.
[Aside: I want prequel Weiss. They just basically said that Weiss and Vaughn knew each other in sophomore year, didn't they? Unless the "back me up" from Wiess to Vaughn was just to back up how many times he'd told the horrid story. Glargh. Prequel!Weiss! please?]
Don't like that they immediately went from "we're all friends here" to Sydney being jealous and depressed. Triangle bad. No Triangle!
Quotage:
"The whole thing's pretty cool... in a sick, horrible way..." - Marshall
"Sydney, about Vaughn - you know you did the right thing." - Jack to Sydney
Lauren: Look, obviously it was your intention to save Michael's life, I understand that, but I'm going to be honest with you. When I heard you were back, I felt threatened and I hated myself for that because I sympathised with you, with everything you've gone through. But working with you like this -- the stakes of this job are too high and, I don't know about you, but I can't work to the best of my ability while I'm wondering whether or not I'm being polite enough to my husband's ex-girlfriend.
Sydney: You don't need to be polite with me. We're both past formalities.
Lauren: Well then I'll be blunt. I want you to request a transfer to another field office.
Sydney: Lauren, everyone I know, all of the people I have left in my life - my friend, my father - work at that office.
Lauren: I thought it'd be best if the request came from you.
Sydney: I know we're being blunt, but was that a threat?
Sydney: Have you done this before?
Lauren: I crosstrained at the farm.
Sydney: Are you field rated?
Lauren: No.
Sydney: [to Simon on the phone] For you, I'm always available.
Lauren: Excuse me! Can't that wait?!
"Hopefully Bomani's got his revenge and Sloane is either in incredible pain or dead." - Sydney
Lauren: You've told Bomani you'd work for the Covenant?
Slaone: Yes. And now I'm telling you I'm in a position to be a double agent - working for the Covenant, but loyal to the CIA.
"The fact that Arvin Sloane holds all the cards in this scenario is giving me a migraine." - Sydney
"On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the most degenerate displays of sexual theater known to man, Julia's like a 17." - Simon
Vaughn: [re Wiess] This guy took six months to sit up after he got shot.
Weiss: I was shot in the jugular. I was! I was unconscious for three weeks. And by the way, don't come crying to me if beer starts spraying out of that hole in your chest.
