I'm the last one to hear about this, right? I must be.

Set for a December 2004 release, "King Arthur" is directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The focus of the film will be the history and politics of the period during which Arthur ruled as opposed to the mystical elements. The cast includes Clive Owen (King Arthur), Ioan Gruffudd (Lancelot), Keira Knightley (Guinevere), and Stephen Dillane (Merlin).

Slightly more info at EmpireMovies and FilmForce. Production stills of the movie can be found here, with images of Guinevere starting on page 5.

If I didn't have a girlcrush on Keira before, I do now....

Damsel in distress? I think not. She is going to kick so much ass in this film.

I love historical action films. Unless they star Russell Crowe. Then his acting causes me pain.

LOL Well, her breasts really aren't that large, and it's basically fatty tissue.. so it probably doesn't hurt.. much. Maybe. We're discussing Keira's breasts XD

Well, yeah.. but it certainly hurts less than if there.. were... uh.. more to squish? XD Hopefully there was some nice soft lining on that outfit...

Dude! Check out her weaponry! :D

Yeah, you'd want to have the leather lined in silk or you'd rub your nipples right off! LOL!

I know! The weapons... oh dear gods, like I need another movie where I wet myself over the armoury... *snicker*

I'll cope with the cost, and psych myself up for the pain... it wasn't too bad first time around.

Blue body paint looks v. sexy on Keira (have we found something yet that doesnt??) but less so on a less svelte figure, shall we say... ;)

Me either. I can't wait for an Arthurian movie in general, but this looks particularly good.

And only partially because of the actors.

Yay for girlcrushes on Kiera! I would say ouchies to the boobs being smooshed...but she really doesn't have much to begin with. Maybe it's not as bad as it looks ^_^

LOL That's what I was thinking. 'Cuase like.. I'm right around her chest size XD

I hear that! I think as long as she's not overly sensitive or has a high threshold for pain, it shouldn't be a big deal...they probably loosen the bindings as well when not filming. Some sort of hidden release clasp or something ^_^

I'm both excited and worried over this film...mostly cause I'm not sure what to expect of her character, cause we all know that Gwenievere was blonde, very pious, and well...she wouldn't be caught dead in a pagan outfit like that...

When I first saw the pics a couple weeks ago, I thought she was Morgaine...

We do? I mean, sure, if you're going to go by something like Le Morte D'Arthur, which is the definitive late medieval romantacised (and Christianised) version... but given the very scant historical data available, the actual Guinevere was surely just as likely to be a dark, pagan, Romano-Celt.

*nod* Had a similar response :) This film is supposedly set in the Dark Ages, as opposed to most of the adaptations that are set later in the Medieval Age. It will be intresting to see what they do with her role.

It looks like they're going for as much historical plausibility as is possible with something as hard to pin down as the Arthurian legend. I'm intrigued by it...

Thanks for posting the links/pics, Mez, I hadn't heard about this one before either and now I'm all excited!! *is in awe of PaganWarriorKiera & wishes she could look as good wearing leather straps and woad...*

*shrugs*

You could go by that...it's just that everything I've encountered (and I'll admit, it ain't much) of Arthurian Legend makes her to be the previous stereotype I mentioned. Granted, writers use the legend for their own purposes anyway, so we'll see. :)

Im right there with you on the girlcrush...she looks hot

Doesnt mean Id want to piss her off though, or meet her alone in a dark ally. Aie.

also, the binding wouldnt hurt too much...(have had to have my chest bound tight before), and Im pretty tiny. You get used to it...feels odd afterwards though. O_o

*facepalm*

in fact, i might also have a girl!crush on kiera knightley! she looks like a Pict! its fabulous!

however, serious other problems with this film...guenievere is NOT a warrior! she's a wimp! and an ardent catholic! and really whiny! and so many other BAD things!

but i will see it anyway, despite my intense dislike of guenievere (i can't spell it, sorry) because i <3 everything Arthurian, both history and legend...*shakes head* but that's really screwin' it up! *shakes fist*

however, tho' i've only seen pictures of him, i trust that everyone's opinions of clive owen and ioan gruffudd are true and they will play fabulously, and i HAVE seen (in fact, i own it *for shame!*) a film where guenievere is the warrior, and i have no doubt that kiera will also play that part fabulously, despite it being grossly inaccurate (according to the legend, of course, because in history arthur was no king...)

bah. my geek is showing.

You have?! What movie is that? I wanna see! :-D

Also, Clive Owen is the one reason I want to see "Beyond Borders"...

its just called "Guinevere" (wow, just there, i could spell it O_o) and it stars Sheryl Lee as Guinevere, and a very young Noah Wyle as Lancelot, also a very young Sean Patrick Flannery as Arthur...

(perhaps you see the reasons i bought it anyway? and it was only $4.99 in the discount dvd bin...)

Definitely an ouchie costume, but interesting. It looks like she's in some sort of clan rather than a prim and proper princess.

Oh, and you didn't mention the pics of Lancelot. Ioan...guh! There's a new Hornblower miniseries on A&E in December and now this period movie. Much swoonage to be had. ;-)
