work, frustration, and cheap hosting
Aug. 21st, 2003 01:00 amSo... not at cashwrap today. Marisa told me to go to the floor 'cause they didn't need me. The floor was completely the boring-st place ever tonight. I answered 2 calls and helped maybe 5 people. Half of them just wanted a bathroom. We had the entire book area recovered by 9:30, so the four of us (yes, there were four of us at Info) stood around and tried to look busy. I hung out in Kids for a little bit, but generally I was straightening shelves. I had no room to put a book in the Business section so I put it on the top shelf on top of some other books... while I was stepping back to see what I could move to make room. Manager Sue happens to be behind me and goes, "Oh no, you can't do that." So she thinks I was just going to leave it there >_< Glargh. I was too flustered to say anything because she moved in right away to put it in "properly" which involved cramming the book on the shelf. I saw her later and told her that I wasn't just going to leave it there, I was going to make room. *sigh*
It was so boring... the MOD let me and another girl out 15 minutes early. So I had time to pick up my bookmarks and the Photoshop book Charlie had used when he was teaching our class. It has some nifty tutorials.
What the hell is wrong with eBay? *kicks it* I need to win thingsss! Actually, I need to pay my credit card bill. Good thing I get paid tomorrow ^_^*
I had the sudden brilliant idea to register lin.net so I could serve sites to my family. I type it in to the explorer bar and.. nothing. So I think "wheee! It's free!" (it's late.. shut up) So I go and try to register it... some fuckwit has it registered for the next 3 years and doesn't have it hooked up to a server or even parked anywhere. What an asshat. He probably doesn't even remember he has the damn thing. I just think if you buy a domain you should at least do something with it. Argh. ::annoyed:: There goes my brilliant plan.
By the by, this all spawned from
fyrdrakken pimping Jiffynet hosting, which has really fantastic and cheap plans. I might buy cynthialin.net hosting from there... not sure yet.
I need new icons. And I missed birthdays. So tomorrow I'm probably making graphics and being arty. Yay! Oh.. and learning how to drive thedeath mobile Bronco.
Chatting with a couple people and then it is off to bed!

Date: 2003-08-26 09:19 am (UTC)My uncle does it because it's fun, but some things are a pain in the ass. He doesn't want to enable CGI right now because you have to monitor the logs all the time, even a domain as useless as ours is constantly being pinged by people looking for common vulnerabilities.
As a Computer Science major, I think it looks professional to be able to put firstname@lastname.net on your resume.
But I think it's mostly for fun.
