Thank you, Captain Obvious

TO: The Campus Community
FROM: Alan B. Donovan

Even as we welcome the arrival of Spring after a difficult Winter, we
find our nation on the brink of war.
It will be a war about which we know there is far from universal
agreement. In the days ahead, however, several matters appear certain.
> There will be casualties, both military and civilian.
Let us pray these are few in number and pray especially
for the safety and well being of our military personnel.
> There will be world-wide results from this action which
we cannot anticipate and which likely will be far
reaching in impact and duration.
> All of us will be affected in ways we cannot know now.
Given these circumstances, it is important for us as a College community
to reach out to each other and to support and listen to each other,
regardless of any differences in opinion.
And as we go about our daily routines--as we should--we need to find
time: time to meditate about or pray in our own way during these days of
tribulation for the dream of peace in the Middle East and the world, for
peace in our own community, and for peace in our own hearts.
This is almost as unecessary as the Orange Alert email:

As you know, the nation has been put on Orange Alert because of the
potential for terrorist activities.
Please be assured that I have put in place an Emergency Response Plan
and team. While it is highly unlikely that our campus faces any direct
threat, I believe such action is necessary for our safety and well
being.
I will be in direct communication with you should there be a need to do
so.
'Cause... okay.
