amezri: (avengers ;; black widow/hawkeye)

Saw Avengers again for the third time tonight. Still amazing!! I think I'm a little worn out on theater showings, so I probably won't see it again until it comes out on Bluray. I believe I saw somewhere that Joss will be putting the extra 30 minutes of footage in the extra features. If so - yay!

Right. So, more spoilery thoughts!

One thing I realized on second viewing is how scared Natasha is of the Hulk. She's obviously traumatized after he chased her through the Helicarrier, but it took another viewing for me to realize that she is honestly freaked out starting when Coulson tells her to go get Banner. By the time she finds him in Calcutta, I feel like she's trying not to psych herself out about the fact that he turns into a giant rage monster and is very wary of Banner. We know that the Black Widow is a bad ass and isn't afraid of much, so when we see her huddled in a corner after barely escaping the Hulk, it's a big deal.

And...Clint/Natasha... I love them so much. I love that they are the two non-super powered
team members. Right, Tony is a dude with a suit, but that suit lets him take a beating from Thor. These are two people who have developed a skill set, though. And I love that they are so familiar with each other. I 'ship them, obviously, but spy buddy bffs works for me too. The "cognitive recalibration/hit you really hard in the head" line is still my favorite, as is that whole scene between these two. Such a great moment. Also loved them fighting together in the final battle, Natasha saying "this is just like that time in Budapest" and Clint replying "you and I remember Budapest very differently."

Still mad about Coulson. I'm starting to hope that Nick Fury was pulling his usual bullshit trickery and Coulson is still alive. Isn't he supposed to be in Iron Man 3?! I'm choosing not to believe anything Fury says...and Coulson just sort of passed out. And when he comes to in the infirmary, he'd be embarrassed about it, but then get quietly angry that Fury got blood on his Captain America cards because it took him so long to get a near mint set.

Stark&Banner are totally science geek BFFs. At the end of the movie, Tony totally took him back to Stark (Avenger) Tower to hang out and play with shiny toys. Of course, there would be a very serious moment where Tony has to tell Pepper that Phil is dead.

Hulk slapping Loki around on the ground like a dirty rag is still hilarious. I didn't catch it the first time, but Loki does a bit of comedy "I'm in so much pain" exhalation.

Totally still loving Hawkeye. I still can't figure out exactly how his quiver works, though. He has special tips that spin on and then he pulls the arrow out but the holes on the top are only as wide as the shafts - how to the tips come out?! And while I do appreciate that he ran out of arrows, he definitely shot way more than he had in the first place. Yes, they did show him reclaiming some arrows, but there's no way he got them all back when they first regrouped...except his quiver was full and he still had arrows in his hand. Same with Black Widow - she must have had a dozen extra mags. If so, where did she keep them? Yeah... Stuff I can't think too much about.

The Avengers all turn into good little soldiers, led by Captain America, who was the only one in the group who has really led soldiers in a war I guess. Even Tony, who hates orders, defers to Cap. Also, even though they're all hoping Tony survived and would come back through the portal, they can't wait around forever and there's no hesitation from Black Widow when she's told to close the portal. Thankfully, Tony made it out and he's scooped out of the sky by his new buddy, Hulk.

Oh man... so many more feelings about this movie!!! Ummm... The shawarma scene at the end is still funny. On third viewing, you definitely notice more subtle things like Ruffalo looks like he's about to bust out laughing, Evans is really hiding that beard he needs for a film he's working on, Renner and Scarlett are all cozy trying to not really eat the shawarma. Poor Hemsworth, who supposedly ate all that shawarma every take, looks like he's about to be sick. RDJ is acting like he can't decide if he likes it or not. Looooved this extra scene. It got a lot of laughs tonight, more than the previous showings I've seen.

Oh man this movie. So much good stuff and I've already forgotten some stuff I wanted to write down. Ahhhh! I need new lj icons and all the toys and things right now!

I'm currently working on a cheap as hell Hawkeye costume. Planning not to spend more than $50 on it and want to have it for Albany ComicCon in June. So far I have a $6 toy bow, pants, boots (from my River costume), and I bought a front zip vest from eBay. I'm hoping it's a fabric that I can just paint the maroon panels on, otherwise I'll have to get fabric to sew or glue on. I want to make the arm guard & glove too. Kind of excited about my not-at-all accurate costume.

Someone on my float told me that you see coulson for a few seconds when fury is talking about lying at the end. I missed it and haven't gone a second time yet.

AHH! I totally thought that was him but was wondering if I it was wishful thinking! :P

my float? LOL, that'll teach me to type stuff on my phone when I'm not fully awake to spellcheck, haha.

I COMPLETELY missed it! Going to try and go again this weekend. Damn Mother's Day interfering with my movie plans!

Mwahaha! :P

*laughs* Don't you hate real life getting in the way of fannish pursuits? ;) It's a blink and you'll miss it scene - I actually totally thought maybe I was projecting my desparate want of Coulson to still be alive into crazy town hallucination since NO ONE anywhere else has even mentioned thinking that was him at the end until now. :P I feel better now. ;)

This is why I rely on my flist to tell me these things! They are these allknowing people who pay a ton more attention than I do, haha.

I saw someone in a discussion elsewhere mentioning seeing him wearing a sling coming in behind Fury at the end of the movie.

I don't remember seeing the sling, it really was a blink and you miss it moment. The only thing I thought was ZOMGPHIL! and then the scene was over. *laughs*

Time for a fourth, methinks.

Too bad you're like ALL THE WAY UP THERE, cause I wanna see it again.

I still need to see Cabin in the Woods too.

LOL.

Want to try and pick a weekend that I can train up there? Somewhere in June? I'm trying to move to Florida in July.

Yeah, possibly. I'm not sure what's going on in June but the weekend of the 9t/10th is out for sure.

I totally choose to believe Fury was being a manipulative bastard and that Coulson is alive and kicking and going to want to strangle Fury for ruining his mint cards. :P Also, yes to everything you said above! I really, really hope they bring Whedon back to do the sequel.

Me too! And there's some speculation that Coulson is kind of reborn as Vision, who is an android, and that they sort of set this up already with Tony mentioning "life model decoys". Hmm....

Date: 2012-05-10 05:42 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] forcryinoutloud.livejournal.com
Yes, I was reading those speculations too! I'd prefer him be alive to being Vision :P but honestly, at this point, if he's "alive" (alive alive, or android alive) I'd be happy.

fyrdrakken: (Iron Man/Captain America)
From: [personal profile] fyrdrakken
Still only seen it the once, and I'm waiting for the DVD (unless I wind up torrenting a pirated copy to tide me over).

I noticed how genuinely freaked out Natasha was in Calcutta (the way she reacted when Bruce slammed the table to startle her), but I didn't quite connect that to her reaction to having to play tag with the Hulk. Or rather, I noticed her having to regroup a bit after the end of that chase, but didn't connect it to her having a specific fear of him.

I'm still in the Coulson-lived-Fury-lied camp -- and hopefully getting Cap's signature (possibly on all the cards) will console Phil for the blood.

I haven't gotten a good look at the top of Clint's quiver, but if there isn't a larger "release" slot that the arrow about-to-be-fired gets rotated into (which doesn't really make sense because each shaft is in its given slot) then each narrow slot to hold the shaft in place must open out wider to release the arrow for firing. Some sort of hinge mechanism triggered when the arrowhead is locked into place or whatever.

A sporting goods store would sell the arm guard and glove -- quite possibly even the exact models Jeremy Renner was wearing -- but making your own might indeed be cheaper, I have no idea what archery gear goes for or what your materials cost would be.

From: [identity profile] amezri.livejournal.com
I'm thinking of torrenting a copy to see some things I missed... I've already paid to see it three times in theaters, so I don't feel that bad about it.

Hm. Actually, I was thinking about a rotating mechanism and I'm sure there must be something like that considering all the other crazy mechanics on that thing. I know which model of arm guards - they're two Beiter arm guards with an extra strap. Kind of expensive to buy two sets, but I can replicate it for cheap I think. The shooting glove is also a custom piece, but I think I can make it from some scrap material.

Your feels are my feels. I loved the Tony/Bruce science bffery. I want to find an icon of them that says "science! <3" or something. Or heck, just the two of them being nerds or Tony prodding him with the screwdriver - I loved that WHOLE SCENE. I loved the HUMOR.

Someone in another thread elsewhere posed that Coulson-is-not-dead thing and I was all "PLEASE I WILL BUY ALL YOUR TINHATS IF YOU ARE RIGHT" because seriously, I LOVE COULSON. So much.

The schwarma scene made me want schwarma. SO BADLY. I miss my three-blocks-away Lebanese place from San Diego. There is a middle-eastern joint a bit away from where I work that does it decent enough, but they're expensive and in general middle-eastern food joints are not nearly as frequently found as I would like. Not even a good Greek place. TRAVESTY.

I prefer Clint/Natasha as spy bffs, but that's because my Clint-OTP is Clint/Darcy.

Seriously. That movie was amazing.

Date: 2012-05-10 04:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] amezri.livejournal.com
I totally 'ship Clint/Natasha... but now I'm curious about this Clint/Darcy thing. Hmm. Hmmmmmm.... *googles*

I don't want Coulson to be dead, but there is also this talk about Vision (who I think you got in your Marvel chibi blind box?) and how they will make him in the image of Coulson or that he's possibly been Vision this whole time. Tony already mentioned life model decoys in Avengers, so this could be the set up? Also, Tony liked Coulson (even if he wouldn't admit it) so if he actually goes ahead with creating LMDs, I bet he'd make a new Coulson.

Hmmmmmm.

This post has most of the good stuff in the recs list at the bottom. (The manifesto isn't that good because it really isn't a ship manifesto, it's just character descriptions O_o) [livejournal.com profile] swing_set13 is one of my favorite authors for the short ficlets, and Gift of Asylum and Simple, Not Easy (which also has lots of Loki, some Loki/Sif and Darcy in general) are the ones that really got me into the pairing. Though, no lie, one of [livejournal.com profile] eiluned's recs, which is kind of porny but fun, Emotion in Motion was what made me start to consider it.

And Just Temporary, Ma'am is also kind of fun.

Seriously, the big thing on these is a well-written Darcy. Clint is fairly easy, what with the stoic bits. But a good Darcy can make all the difference in the world.

Ahhh! I read them all! And Emotion In Motion is by smitty, who I always did love in SGA fandom.

Must find more...

Oh my goodness!

There really isn't much...so...if you find more, you'll have to tell me!

(I wrote a couple tiny ficlets here but I haven't been doing very well filling my prompt table. Maybe I should get back to that. Maybe I should rewatch Thor...)

Ooh here's a couple more. I remember reading "Cut to Fit" and it was kind of awesome. The others I'm going to have to reacquaint myself with.

Like that's such a chore.

I love that in all the fics I've read, Natasha is awesome and not at all catty about it. Because, you know, she totally wouldn't be.

Date: 2012-05-11 05:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] arysani.livejournal.com
Yes! I think it's because in Darcy fanon, she is beffies with Pepper and Natasha, so we can't make Natasha a bitch because we like her and we want her to teach Darcy awesome girlninja moves and stuff. At most, I've seen (and written) Darcy as not liking her in principle, but once they meet, she realizes Natasha is awesome and it's stupid to not like her. Because it *is* stupid to not like her.

(And I've also noticed that Clint/Darcy generally accepts that there was a past Clint/Natasha. It didn't work out, for whatever reason, but there's no hard feelings and Natasha being Clint's beffie is how it is.)

Date: 2012-05-11 08:07 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] amezri.livejournal.com
Yes, and there's also the developing trope that Natasha is actually trying to make Darcy jealous so that Darcy will get her butt in gear and do something about it. I don't mind that one too much either. :)
