Saw Avengers again for the third time tonight. Still amazing!! I think I'm a little worn out on theater showings, so I probably won't see it again until it comes out on Bluray. I believe I saw somewhere that Joss will be putting the extra 30 minutes of footage in the extra features. If so - yay!
Right. So, more spoilery thoughts!
One thing I realized on second viewing is how scared Natasha is of the Hulk. She's obviously traumatized after he chased her through the Helicarrier, but it took another viewing for me to realize that she is honestly freaked out starting when Coulson tells her to go get Banner. By the time she finds him in Calcutta, I feel like she's trying not to psych herself out about the fact that he turns into a giant rage monster and is very wary of Banner. We know that the Black Widow is a bad ass and isn't afraid of much, so when we see her huddled in a corner after barely escaping the Hulk, it's a big deal.
And...Clint/Natasha... I love them so much. I love that they are the two non-super powered
team members. Right, Tony is a dude with a suit, but that suit lets him take a beating from Thor. These are two people who have developed a skill set, though. And I love that they are so familiar with each other. I 'ship them, obviously, but spy buddy bffs works for me too. The "cognitive recalibration/hit you really hard in the head" line is still my favorite, as is that whole scene between these two. Such a great moment. Also loved them fighting together in the final battle, Natasha saying "this is just like that time in Budapest" and Clint replying "you and I remember Budapest very differently."
Still mad about Coulson. I'm starting to hope that Nick Fury was pulling his usual bullshit trickery and Coulson is still alive. Isn't he supposed to be in Iron Man 3?! I'm choosing not to believe anything Fury says...and Coulson just sort of passed out. And when he comes to in the infirmary, he'd be embarrassed about it, but then get quietly angry that Fury got blood on his Captain America cards because it took him so long to get a near mint set.
Stark&Banner are totally science geek BFFs. At the end of the movie, Tony totally took him back to Stark (Avenger) Tower to hang out and play with shiny toys. Of course, there would be a very serious moment where Tony has to tell Pepper that Phil is dead.
Hulk slapping Loki around on the ground like a dirty rag is still hilarious. I didn't catch it the first time, but Loki does a bit of comedy "I'm in so much pain" exhalation.
Totally still loving Hawkeye. I still can't figure out exactly how his quiver works, though. He has special tips that spin on and then he pulls the arrow out but the holes on the top are only as wide as the shafts - how to the tips come out?! And while I do appreciate that he ran out of arrows, he definitely shot way more than he had in the first place. Yes, they did show him reclaiming some arrows, but there's no way he got them all back when they first regrouped...except his quiver was full and he still had arrows in his hand. Same with Black Widow - she must have had a dozen extra mags. If so, where did she keep them? Yeah... Stuff I can't think too much about.
The Avengers all turn into good little soldiers, led by Captain America, who was the only one in the group who has really led soldiers in a war I guess. Even Tony, who hates orders, defers to Cap. Also, even though they're all hoping Tony survived and would come back through the portal, they can't wait around forever and there's no hesitation from Black Widow when she's told to close the portal. Thankfully, Tony made it out and he's scooped out of the sky by his new buddy, Hulk.
Oh man... so many more feelings about this movie!!! Ummm... The shawarma scene at the end is still funny. On third viewing, you definitely notice more subtle things like Ruffalo looks like he's about to bust out laughing, Evans is really hiding that beard he needs for a film he's working on, Renner and Scarlett are all cozy trying to not really eat the shawarma. Poor Hemsworth, who supposedly ate all that shawarma every take, looks like he's about to be sick. RDJ is acting like he can't decide if he likes it or not. Looooved this extra scene. It got a lot of laughs tonight, more than the previous showings I've seen.
Oh man this movie. So much good stuff and I've already forgotten some stuff I wanted to write down. Ahhhh! I need new lj icons and all the toys and things right now!
I'm currently working on a cheap as hell Hawkeye costume. Planning not to spend more than $50 on it and want to have it for Albany ComicCon in June. So far I have a $6 toy bow, pants, boots (from my River costume), and I bought a front zip vest from eBay. I'm hoping it's a fabric that I can just paint the maroon panels on, otherwise I'll have to get fabric to sew or glue on. I want to make the arm guard & glove too. Kind of excited about my not-at-all accurate costume.

Date: 2012-05-10 02:05 pm (UTC)*laughs* Don't you hate real life getting in the way of fannish pursuits? ;) It's a blink and you'll miss it scene - I actually totally thought maybe I was projecting my desparate want of Coulson to still be alive into crazy town hallucination since NO ONE anywhere else has even mentioned thinking that was him at the end until now. :P I feel better now. ;)

Date: 2012-05-10 02:17 pm (UTC)I noticed how genuinely freaked out Natasha was in Calcutta (the way she reacted when Bruce slammed the table to startle her), but I didn't quite connect that to her reaction to having to play tag with the Hulk. Or rather, I noticed her having to regroup a bit after the end of that chase, but didn't connect it to her having a specific fear of him.
I'm still in the Coulson-lived-Fury-lied camp -- and hopefully getting Cap's signature (possibly on all the cards) will console Phil for the blood.
I haven't gotten a good look at the top of Clint's quiver, but if there isn't a larger "release" slot that the arrow about-to-be-fired gets rotated into (which doesn't really make sense because each shaft is in its given slot) then each narrow slot to hold the shaft in place must open out wider to release the arrow for firing. Some sort of hinge mechanism triggered when the arrowhead is locked into place or whatever.
A sporting goods store would sell the arm guard and glove -- quite possibly even the exact models Jeremy Renner was wearing -- but making your own might indeed be cheaper, I have no idea what archery gear goes for or what your materials cost would be.

Date: 2012-05-10 03:33 pm (UTC)Hm. Actually, I was thinking about a rotating mechanism and I'm sure there must be something like that considering all the other crazy mechanics on that thing. I know which model of arm guards - they're two Beiter arm guards with an extra strap. Kind of expensive to buy two sets, but I can replicate it for cheap I think. The shooting glove is also a custom piece, but I think I can make it from some scrap material.

Date: 2012-05-10 03:25 pm (UTC)Someone in another thread elsewhere posed that Coulson-is-not-dead thing and I was all "PLEASE I WILL BUY ALL YOUR TINHATS IF YOU ARE RIGHT" because seriously, I LOVE COULSON. So much.
The schwarma scene made me want schwarma. SO BADLY. I miss my three-blocks-away Lebanese place from San Diego. There is a middle-eastern joint a bit away from where I work that does it decent enough, but they're expensive and in general middle-eastern food joints are not nearly as frequently found as I would like. Not even a good Greek place. TRAVESTY.
I prefer Clint/Natasha as spy bffs, but that's because my Clint-OTP is Clint/Darcy.
Seriously. That movie was amazing.

Date: 2012-05-10 04:02 pm (UTC)I don't want Coulson to be dead, but there is also this talk about Vision (who I think you got in your Marvel chibi blind box?) and how they will make him in the image of Coulson or that he's possibly been Vision this whole time. Tony already mentioned life model decoys in Avengers, so this could be the set up? Also, Tony liked Coulson (even if he wouldn't admit it) so if he actually goes ahead with creating LMDs, I bet he'd make a new Coulson.

Date: 2012-05-10 04:35 pm (UTC)This post has most of the good stuff in the recs list at the bottom. (The manifesto isn't that good because it really isn't a ship manifesto, it's just character descriptions O_o)
And Just Temporary, Ma'am is also kind of fun.
Seriously, the big thing on these is a well-written Darcy. Clint is fairly easy, what with the stoic bits. But a good Darcy can make all the difference in the world.

(I wrote a couple tiny ficlets here but I haven't been doing very well filling my prompt table. Maybe I should get back to that. Maybe I should rewatch Thor...)

Date: 2012-05-11 05:52 pm (UTC)(And I've also noticed that Clint/Darcy generally accepts that there was a past Clint/Natasha. It didn't work out, for whatever reason, but there's no hard feelings and Natasha being Clint's beffie is how it is.)
