among others, 10yv bus trip
Feb. 3rd, 2008 10:53 pmLittle lax on the lj entries again...
Thursday
Went to
katkel's after work for dinner and Wonderfalls. Watched three episodes... but stopped before we got to the one Jewel Staite appears in! Oh, how I love that one. Also visited the new puppy her parents got. So cute! Who doesn't love puppies?
Friday
Hm. Was supposed to go to the Indie Film Festival at the Madison Theater, but due to crappy weather (and the three accidents already on the street) decided to call it off. Oh well. I ended up staying home and sewing velcro to my patches and watching like 6 episodes of H2O.
Saturday
smashedrecords came over to work on some Photoshop things then we headed off to catch the Ten Year Vamp bus to the Bodog competition at the Blender Theater.
The band had already gone down before us, so it was just the fans for the trip there. We actually got to the venue before they were letting people in so we stood out in the cold for about half an hour. I was pretty impressed with the stage setup once we were let inside, and I was sad that I didn't even attempt to bring my crappy Nikon camera which probably would have taken some decent photos. After a stop at the bar,
smashedrecords and I headed into the room with the stage and found Pete, TYV's guitarist, already sitting. We chatted with him about, joked about the photo in the Metroland article, and some other stuff. We ended up sitting next to him while the first few acts played on stage.
I liked a few of the acts, notably Greg Smith & The Broken English and Striving In Greater Hopes (tracked down JayR and bought a CD). Hollywood Hangover was also entertaining, but not really enough for me to buy a CD. The leader singer, was, however highly entertaining with his coming by and chatting up
smashedrecords.
After Ten Year played, I saw the guitarist from SIGH hanging about so I asked him if I could buy a CD and followed him around until he found his merch :-P Went back up to find Annalisa... couldn't find her, so I headed back down to the bar area. The normal crew was floating about, so we just stood around chatted.
Right, so remember me not having a camera? Pete asked me to take some pictures with his camera, which I did gladly. I think he had a Sony Cybershot, though I don't know which model, but after messing with the Program mode, I think I was able to get some decent shots. When I handed him back the camera, I asked if he'd make me a picture disc or something so I could have them and he said he would. We shall see. He reviewed the photos and seemed really impressed by them, so I hope they actually look decent on a screen or even printed. Debbie was over by the bar at one point also and it was really funny because she saw me and shouted "Cynthiaaaaaa!" in a way I hadn't heard since my suite mates in college used to, so that was uberamusing.
I felt like Mark, who seemed so keen to talk to me about design related things when we were in contact over e-mail, was totally ignoring me. You know, looking at me but not smiling or saying hi or like just walking by, but I'm going to have to attribute that to the fact that he was obviously sick and there was also some for fangirl hanging out with him for the trip (which made another obsessive fangirl not so amused) and not that he was pointedly ignoring me otherwise I'll be annoyed. I did finally chat with him a bit and he was pleasant enough. He said that there was a bit of a happy accident with the photo I'd given him to use for a new Ten Year poster (something about a print error which caused the three inks to align wrong) and that it looked so cool he's going to go back and design the poster that way on purpose. I felt a bit geeky talking about pulling out channels and such, but it was cool. There was also some mild bitching about clients, but then the awkward "okay, I'm done now" settled in. Of course, we just chatted amongst ourselves and the band members just stayed where they were, so i guess that means they were comfortable enough just sitting around with us, right? Because seriously the only time they fled was when this really annoying girl was talking at them and just wouldn't shut up.
We finally left the venue at about midnight, two hours earlier than we were told originally. However, we didn't actually leave until nearly 1am because two of the freshies were missing and, you know, we couldn't actually leave without them. Anyway, the ride back was uneventful and wasn't nearly as entertaining as the MEANY fest trip because the band was pretty wiped from their slew of shows this week and everyone was just tired. So after Pete did some gushing over the photos and video one of the stray freshies took (ugh, whatever), people just basically passed out. Except for the back of the bus, which was filled with really annoying people who wouldn't shut the hell up.
Didn't get home til about 4am, at which point I had a glass of juice and went to bed.
Sunday
Got up at 1pm. Can you blame me? :-P
Ended up helping mom look for a 512 xD card, which of course no one carries because 1GB or 2GB is standard now. We ended up going to Target where I bought camo Converse One Stars... then to BJ's where I got some snack foods for work and an extra 2GB microSD card for my DS. I think I'm going to use it for music and videos and such.
And now I'm off to bed so I can get my lazy behind up in the morning to get to work in time for training this new person. Oy.

Date: 2008-02-05 08:32 pm (UTC)On the other hand, I know I'm guilty of doing pretty much the exact same thing to people. Usually because I suddenly don't know how to interact with them, and feel awkward and whatnot.
