movie: sweeney todd
Jan. 4th, 2008 11:06 pmBefore I get into the movie... dinner was freakin' awesome. I wish every movie night dinner could be that entertaining. Our waitress was hysterical and really fun -- I hope we left a large enough tip. Other than myself, we had 8 for dinner:
queenmaab,
smashedrecords & Eric,
katkel &
sweetwildmad,
erintheodd,
mcmi11ions, and
tiscbh28. Dawn joined us later for the movie.
Right so. Sweeney Todd.
smashedrecords said it was bloody and graphic which... parts of it were. With the shoot and the drop-squish. But generally... I didn't think so. It was a bit red paint, if you ask me. Honestly, at the really disgusting parts people were laughing, though I'm sure it was in an "oh.em.gee wtf?!" sort of way. I'd never seen the stage performance (just bits and pieces here and there) and there are several different versions, but I liked this. There was more singing than I had anticipated and Johnny Depp -- who says he is not a singer -- actually did a decent job, though I think everyone was upstaged by Toby. I was really glad to spot Tony Head in the plaza scene, but that made me bummed that his part in the chorus had been cut. It sort of makes his cameo a bit pointless... oh well, at least he made it in. The twist at the end? Seen it coming a mile away, but still good. And a tragic ending, which I kinda appreciate. I don't need a happily ever after in everything I watch.
While at the mall, I also got myself a new calendar for home -- Anne Taintor for 2008! Hoorah! Just put it up. Scrapped the push pin that was threatening to fall out and just shoved one of those hercules hooks into the wall. Does the trick nicely. Also stopped at Body Shop, which was having a wee sale and picked up some blueberry and pomegranate body butters.
Earlier today, I actually was able to get all my books put away. Except there's still a crap load of stuff all over my floor and a large pile of VHS tapes that need to be boxed up and stored :\ I'll get to those eventually.
