Okay. So I now own one of these Razr things. But because I'm on the crap Verizon network, they've pretty much crippled the file transfer so I can't put my own images or sounds on it.

I've found with my old phone that I really only change ringtones once every year when I get bored with mine or have a new fandom. So.... I'm thinking I might just throw down for the Get It Now tokens to do it, but I dunno.

Xringer has a tricorder sound that I'm just dorky enough to use as a ringtone. And they have the Red Dwarf theme.

I've been playing with this thing for hours and hours -- ignoring my laundry and taxes -- and I've come up with no solution. I've got a data cable, but 90% of the time, the computer won't even recognize the device. BitPim will read the images, but I don't think it'll put them on.

Anyone else have a Razr on the Verizon Network? How are you getting stuff on it?

All of my friends who have razrs hate the things. I've heard everything thing from it eats batteries to the file transfer sucks to people not getting good reception. I'll ask how they eventually got stuff on it though if you need me to. :)

P.S. Having now seen (and become addicted to) Kitchen Confidential this icon gives me HOURS of amusement. I actually randomly say "Fuego!" when I'm amused now. You enabler, you.

I don't think the battery life is too much different than other similar phones, so I'm not too concerned about that... but, the whole not being ale to transfer with a data cable is annoying. I'm going to see about just e-mailing myself the photos and stuff I take.

ooh, how did you do it?? i have a razr and i'm on verizon and i have yet to be able to do any file transfers!

I haven't been able to do actual file transfers with the data cable, but I followed this tutorial and it worked with a midi file. I just had my txt/pix plan switched to the $10/month unlimited, so I'm going to try out images and short mp3 files next.
