Quick stop at McDonald's for breakfast, then another pitstop at Circuit City to price match with Fry's. Got their last copy of SG-1 Season 9 for $17! W000t! Stopped at a market to pick up lunch foods and the headed for the hotel to meet with
lilorphanannie. She was already waiting outside when we got there. It was really cool to see her again!
We headed in to the ballroom as it was time for Ben's talk. Of course, things were running a bit late as they sometimes do, so they showed some more music videos. Some of them were pretty good. I'm sort of over the whole clip-show video style because SGA fandom has ruined me. Where is the originality? The creativity? Oy.

When Ben Browder finally came out. Uhm. Well. He was in a giant bunny suit. From what I hear, he saw the costume in the museum and wanted to wear it one more time before it was sold. It was fraking hilarious! ben was just as amused as all of us because he kept bouncing around on stage during his talk and wiggling his tail and asking if the suit made his ass look big. He kept telling the camera operator to wide out, otherwise he wasn't getting the full effect! The man ahas no fear... and apparently no shame. This must be what happens when neither his wife nor Claudia are here to reign him in XD
Go read
athenaktt's report of that day, because I just can't cover it all here... but I will mention a few things.
A couple of times, in response to people coming up and saying "I have two questions," he would say, "let me guess, 'I hate your character and can I have a hug?'" XD Which is so sad because I have totally heard those questions before. Bwaaaah! He talked a fair bit about SG-1, which I was happy about. Mentioned that beau Bridges has no idea how to hold a gun and that he really did enjoy working with the cast and crew there.
Someone's cell phone went off and people started shouting "slab," which is apparently an on-set joke where anytime your cell would ring, you'd have to buy the crew a slab (case) of beer. Ben explained that he was told this was for the benefit of the actors -- except none of the actors drank, so he wasn't really sure how that worked. Oh! And that he'd tried buying beer for the crew in Canada, but they wouldn't let him XD Ben notices Stephen in the back of the room and he shouts, "Can you believe that? They wouldn't let me buy the crew beer!" Ben also said that he could join the band in his bunny costume -- the guys would be the leather and he'd be the lace (insert hip gyration).
It's clear Ben is a classy and intelligent individual... just... not that this point in time with the bunny suit on. Ha! He was talking about something that suddenly make the audiance moan and he responded with, "There's a war going on in Iraq!" There were a few other political comments dropped, but not really many and none if you weren't paying attention. He also said quickly that he wasn't going to talk politics anymore, but if anyone wanted to discuss it with him, to see him after the talk. Heh. One of the questions asked was whether or no Vala (and as an afterthought, Mitchell) would be transfering over to Stargate: Atlantis, to which Ben replied that Joe would probably have him killed -- he has friends in high places. Hm. Yeah. So. True.
There was also mention of a Farscape musical (??) which led into Ben saying something that sounded rather derogatory towards Firefly/"Serenity," but Ben quickly told everyone to calm down and that he wanted to make it clear that he really loved the show and had told the cast members that he'd met so far as much.
When the Creation wrangle came out to tell him how much time he had left, Ben was totally bargaining for more. "Is that a Hollywood five? Because that's like an hour. Or is that an on-set five? Because they'll say, 'Mr. Browder, five minutes.' Then you realize they're not talking about your dad and you go an wait for the light and grips and you wonder, what am I waiting for?" I think this was when he fiddled with his watch that was in military time and he announced that it was a Stargate watch. It could give you your altitude, RDA's phone number, Shanks' underwear size, Judge's thong size....
And the major difference between Crichton and Mitchell? Well... Ben needed audiance help for that one and they supplied him with -- Mitchell's in the military; Mitchell's too skinny (to which there were some cheers); Mitchell's older (to which Ben made a face). He pointed out the fact that even though some people say that Mitchell looks too young to be a Lt. Col., he is in fact getting to old to be a Lt. Col.
Still on the SG-1 track, Ben answered a question about marathoning the entire series before he started and that "Heroes" was the one he had watched several times. He also started talking about the G-36 versus the P-90 because he didn't know why they always used the P-90. The G-36 is a cool gun! The producers wouldn't let him, though -- they said it looked too agrressive and SG-1 wasn't supposed to be aggressive. When he kept pushing the point, they finally told him that RDA liked the P-90, which is why they stuck with it. And also, SG-1 doesn't kill things, so they'll stuck with the P-90. To this, Ben pointed out that SG-1 never plans on going out and killing people, but they totally do! SG-1 were "harbingers of doom!" If SG-1 came through the Stargate, it was time to pray for your life and get out of there because everywhere SG-1 goes, the place gets pretty much destroyed. Heh. So. Totally. True.
Leather vs. military costume -- which one was easier to do action in? Military BDUs, clearly, since they are designed for that sort of movement. But Ben also pointed out that the downside was when there are pyrotechnics involved, sparks tend to bounce off leather, but the cloth tends to catch fire.
Whose idea was it for him to be Stark in the Farscape spoof in the SG-1 episode "200"? Ben said it was Claudia's idea an that he agree because he didn't want to play Crichton. It also wouldn't make sense because Vala was casting the show in her head and would have chosen Daniel to be the lead. Ben siad his favorite parody in the episode was the Star Trek one because he got to play Captain Kirk and sit in the chair and the way Amanda bats her eyes was great.
Eh, no really, go read
athenaktt's report. She took notes! I forgot. Anyway. Ben's panel? Was probably worth the trip all on its own.
It is not until much later (like, the day after I got home) that my brain was able to actually come up with a question to ask Ben. I would have asked if he had really worked on an SG1 script with Martin Gero and how different it was working with the Asgard puppets versus the Farscape ones. But my brain is small, what can you say?
***
After Ben's talk (which ran long and totally threw off the rest of the con XD), we wandered over to the costume museum ot have a look at the items before they were sold off. The same guy in a suit who had talked to me on Saturday greeted me again as Vala. I said, yeah, that's sort of correct, but I'm also explained the whole costuming group thing. It's so weird how many people just assume SG-1 is the only gate team. I mean, they're the first yeah, but how could that whole base not have more than one team? You see others on the show, people! SG-1 always has to save them! Uhm. Anyway. I got some shots of the costumes and then
lilorphanannie had to go. *sad face* I feel bad that she drove all the way out, paid for a con ticket, and only stayed through Ben's panel. I'm sort of hoping that made up for the cost and the drive :D I was really glad to see her though, and I was able to get a picture with her and
athenaktt before she left. Erm. And make her sign up for the Signal Room mailing list.
We haded back over to the merch area and I got the other two Farscape soundtracks La La Land Records had for sale and sort of cajoled
athenaktt in to getting them as well. I am such an enabler. Went back to the Signal Room table for a bit (surprise!) and bought a set of the manga character cards. Stephen signed one for me ^^
athenaktt, Andrew, and I were all hungry by then and decided to have lunch. Since
lilorphanannie had left, we had an extra caesar salad and I decided to ask if anyone at the Signal ROom table wanted it. Stephen was the only taker, so it was his and we sat on the floor off to the side to eat our sandwiches.
Virginia Hey was already on stage by the time we had finished, so we missed the beginning of her talk. She told some funny stories though, like her first experience in a hotel in downtown Las Vegas where she found a rather large cross-dresser in her room. This of course, scared her pretty good. She also talked a bit about her company, white flower lei. At one point, she was talking about her return as Zhaan in "John Quixote" and thought of something Ben said or did and she started to cry! Someone in the autograph line for Ben shouted, "All right, who made Virginia cry?" and a lot of people shouted back, "Ben!" I wonder if he heard that :-P Heh.
Right after Virginia's talk, they showed a clip of Claudia Black's new animated film, Stolen Life. I have to say that though I love Claudia's voice and that my opinion of this film is in no way a reflection upon her, I was commpletely unimpressed with the whole thing. I wanted to like it, I really did. The animation, however, was too sharp -- someone needs to learn about aliasing. It's an ambitious project, I'm sure, but the whole thing feels clunky and the look is a bit... hm... to be honest it reminds me of my first Bryce rendering. Some things are just too sharp while others are too blurred. CG has moved beyond this already, I think. It's possible I've already been brainwashed by the shiny, hyper-realistic nature of animation these days, but the visuals were really distracting me from even attempting to enjoy whatever story was there. Man, I sound so shallow.

After a really wacked out music video featuring the Scorpy/Sikozu/Braca trianlge, David Franklin came out. He immediately apologized for his speech, saying that he wasn't drunk and that he didn't have a lobotomy, but was in fact in the process of getting treatment for sleep apnea. Poor guy. He said he'd gotten made fun of a lot that day, but it was all right because even though we teased him, he knew we would understand, which is why he showed up to the con despite his speech impediment. Hmm...quick points...
When he first heard about the role, he thought it was was a show called Fire Escape, which cuaght his interest because he thought he's make a good fire fighter. He thought that Braca was the red shirt of the show -- that pretty soon he'd be killed off that the others or turned in to goo. Eventually he realized that Braca was a survivor and that his subordinates were the ones were kept dying off.
Where did Braca's layalties lie: Scorpius or Grayza? With himself, David said. That's why he was able to survive in that world and even climb up the ranks. He also talked about where the stiffness of Braca came from -- that it wasn't really a personal acting choice, but rather that his costume wasn't really properly fitted (a bit too tight) and they had to tape the shirt to his chest to keep it all neat.
I can't remember what else he talked about... oh! One of the fans had gotten on the Price is Right, so David called her down and made her reenact her excited entrance on to set a couple times until he was satisfied with her energy level and then presented her with an autographed photo :) That was nice of him. I'm sure there were other things (like him saying "telepathetic" instead of telepathic) but I can't really remember and his time was way too short. I think they cut him off after about 20 minutes. He was completely adorable though and I wish we'd gotten more time with him.
***
Of course you know by now where we headed next -- the Signal Room table.
athenktt, Andrew, and I stood off to the side talking for a bit before stephen came over to talk to us. I mentioned that I had extra artwork because I didn't see all the guests that weekend (and I really, really would have loved to give one to Ben, but of course I wasn't going to pay for an autograph or a photo, because, hi, ridiculous) and asked if they wanted any of the extras. Jennie picked up "Prospective" and Stephen snagged "Bloody Flora." I swear there was one more, but I can't account for it. We all talked a bit more and next thing I know, I'm being asked to sign my artwork on the mat with a gold marker o_O I have no idea how that came about, but Stephen got me to sign all of his and then Jennie had me sign hers. So weird! LOL
I was talking to Linda about something when I noticed David Franklin sneakin out of his photo op session. I excused myself from Linda (hope I didn't seem too rude...) so I could give him the art prints I had left. At first, I was going to ask him which ones he wanted, but then I realized I didn't have anyne left to give them too, so I said he could just have both. He seemed really pleased and asked how I had made them. Explained. He commented on how impressed he was with the cleverness of the fans and the things that they make. I think asked him about
alorarose's friend who had met him at ScaperCon a few years ago. H didn't really seem to remember until I mentioned the t-shirt. It suddenly dawned on him and he was nodding saying, "Oh, yeah yeah, I remember now!" He said that there were a lot of things that blur together, but he definitely remembered that. I said that it was all right to be scared by scary t-shirts. Heee. (Fans mean well, we do!) David said something like, "people have diffrent was of expressing themselves," and then added, "how's that for putting it tactfully?" Ha! We let David go then, because honestly, I couldn't think of anything intelligent to say.
... so we headed back to the Signal Room table to say goodbye. Ended up talking to them a little longer and did some more photos because Stephen said they hadn't gotten any of me yet. (And I thought it was really funny that he called me by my full name a lot of the times... you know.. like the way Teal'c says "DanielJackson.") So we did photos with Stephen and Linda and Jennie, and a helpful fan came by to take our picture so Andrew could be in it too. I actually don't hate the photos of me from this con, except I wish someone had told me to pull down my shirt in the last few. Oh well.
I told Linda about
sweetwildandmad's project and she said she has some god links about molding and stuff like that that she would e-mail me once she was home. Gave Stephen and Linda hags and then we were off!
On the way out the door, we passed by David Franklin who had been stopped by some fans. I guess one of them asked if he could sign something and he shouted, "Oh, I can't they'll kill me!" in a really panicked voice. Then the other one asked if they could be in a photo with him and he was all, "No! I'll get in trouble!" and then I heard "all right, quickly!" and turned to see him posing. Heh. Poor man. He must have gotten the Creation beatdown!

Went to the ABC Diner for dinner. I got creamed corn soup and fruit crepes. Strangest dinner ever. But it was good. Heh. Afterwards, we stopped by a bubble tea place where I got passion fruit juice with black pearls. Went back to
athenaktt's, watched a few episodes of SG-1 season 9 ("Ties that Bind" and "Ripple Effect"), wrote this con report and packed my stuff for the trip home.

Got up at about 6:30am. Rechecked my bags, showered, had something to eat. Said goodbye to
athenaktt. Her parents drove me to the airport. Flight to San Francisco left and arrived on time. W00t! Flight to Chicago looks good to go, so hopefully I won't miss my connection to Albany.
***
Dear San Fran: I hate you. My plane left about half an hour late. On top of that, the plane was filled with screaming babies and there was a lot of turbulance. Fun, fun, fun. The flight crew was extra stressed because there weer observers or something on board because we had like double the crew. We landed in Chicago shortly before the Albany plane was supposed to board. Ack!
There were only 20 people on our plane, so the flight attendant made us all move up to the front. Which to me, seems to make no sense because that means the plane is now front heavy instead of the weight being distributed, right? Whatever, I'm not a pilot.
Oh! As we were taking off, there were these two couples in the last row chatting away and laughing their heads off really loudly and even like 20 minutes later would not shut up. Sudenly, the guy in front of me gets up and whips around saying loudly, "You guys are going to be those people aren't you?" They stop talking and look all confused. He continues, "I don't mean to be rude, but you're going to be those people who are really loud the whole trip aren't you?" And that shut them right up XD They were totally disgruntled and mumbling after that.
***
Flight actually arrived a bit early. Came home and putzed around on the interwebs before going to bed.
----------------
In conclusion, even though the trip cost me an assload of money, it was worth it to meet
athenaktt and the guys from Signal Room, to see
lilorphanannie again, and attend a con that was actually a pretty good time.
ETA: I was so busy with other stuff at the convention, that I didn't even look at the Signal Room booklet until I was at work yesterday. It seems I got an acknowledgement in the thank you section. That is so, so cool! They totally didn't have to do that.
Photos coming in the next post.

For if the rumours of it being the last one are true (which, ok, probably not given how popular Farscape still is) then I don't want to miss out!!
