Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] auburnnothenna for feedback and guidance on the mix.

This mix is, of course, inspired by [livejournal.com profile] auburnnothenna's In the City of Seven Walls. It has a different sort of tone from the first one I did, which became more somber as the songs progressed. Well, all right, there are a few somber ones in this one as well, but I was hoping to balance it out with more lively tracks and more songs with English lyrics.

gild
tr.v. gild·ed or gilt (glt), gild·ing, gilds
1. To cover with or as if with a thin layer of gold.
2. To give an often deceptively attractive or improved appearance to.
3. Archaic To smear with blood.

Spoilers for the story in the details below.

01. Phil Thornton - Meditation
Quiet moments when Rodney is preparing John for the Haralim.

02. Raquy and the Cavemen - Riq Samai
03. Nomad - Cairo
04. Mas - Ah Ia Zen

I imagine this is the sort of music the Haralim would have playing for her crowd of guests.

05. Niyaz - Ghazal
A song for John, Rodney, and the Haralim. Translation below.

06. Prem Joshua - Secret Place
John and Rodney, in the moments they have to themselves.

07. Samsara Sound System - Gatha
08. dj Cheb i Sabbah - Pour Matoub

Under the influence of the moa.

09. Jef Stoutt f. Reda Darwish - Funky Nawari
The escape.

10. Nitin Sawhney - Sanctuary
Upon returning to Atlantis...

11. Peter Gabriel - Here Comes the Flood
Don't be afraid to cry at what you see / The actors gone, there's only you and me / And if we break before the dawn, they'll / use up what we used to be.

12. Duncan Sheik - Reasons for Living
Everyone's looking, everyone hides / Everyone's telling, but everyone lies / We're changing the subject, we're turning away / Away from the heart of it all

13. Tom McRae - Ghost of a Shark
Oh you will never know I was here // Tell me now is there difference / Between a shark and the ghost of a shark / 'Cause all I have are secrets and memories of the dark

14. Gus Gus - Is Jesus Your Pal
So come and sit on my box, / Enjoy the view of this water, / Where my lifeboat is sinking. // If you reach out for more, / You'll find nothing but sorrow. / cause knowledge is hollow. / And pride is hard to swallow.

15. Sarah Bettens - All of This Past
The light is beautiful / But I'm darker than light // All of this past / All of this over and gone / And never coming back / All of this forgotten / Not by me // I find comfort here / Cos I know what is lost / Hope is always fear / For the pain it may cost

TRANSLATIONS:

Niyaz - Ghazal

(this first part is Urdu poetry)

Your heart cannot be won by me
nor can my soul bear this restlessness.
Need is a burden which cannot be revealed
therefore I remain silent.
Whenever you are before me
my eyes fill with tears that are unable to flow,
like an ocean that stands still
at the sight of you passing by

(this second half is Persian poetry)

Come beloved, for today is all that is ours,
and like the ephemeral moments of a flower's bloom, it will fade.
For tomorrow nothing may remain of me, my heart, or this world,
if the radiance of your love revelas itself as it does today

I downloaded it from the server, as those other places tend to cut out on me and I didn't want to worry about it. Also, I have no idea what part of SGA it is referring to (yet! I'm getting there!) but it is A PRETTY MIX. *is loving "Cairo"*

Mmmmm. Any mix that includes Niyaz is worth downloading.

And off the cuff: Have you heard Niyaz's Azam Ali's Elysium for the Brave? Because that's been part of my latest ITCOSW atmosphere.

I'm snagging the zip from sendspace. Love the story and since Here Comes the Flood always makes my heart seize up in my chest, any mix that fits that song in and is a tie-in to a fic I love is a winner with me.

The cover art is LOVELY!

Thanks!!

This is great, I love your song choices and my City of Seven Walls obsession has reached unhealthy proportions. I hope you don't mind if I download the files individually. I'm on a dial-up and can't easily dowload an 88 Meg file.

I have problems with the other sites sometimes too, so I always try and upload to my server when I can. Glad oyu're liking the mix!

This is for Auburn's fic In the City of Seven Walls, which I guess is set after season 2, since Ronon is present. Heh. It's an intense, but excellent read. I recommend any of her stories, actually. The Taste of Apples is still one of my favorite SGA fics.
