I was talking with [livejournal.com profile] sweetwildandmad and his friend yesterday about the zombie attack on LARPers in Montreal I'd seen a while back. I thought I'd posted about it in my LJ, but searching the archives, I couldn't find links, so. Googled.

A report on the zombie attack on Mount Royal
Medieval club guys and zombies battled it out for over an hour, with no small amount of brain-eating and undead-turning taking place. And in the end, as I said, the zombie attack was actually a lot of fun for everyone.

John Macfarlane's article in The Gazette
After a brief stop at McDonald's (where Hooper saw an opportunity to highlight the oft-suggested zombie-like nature of corporate and fast-food culture with a macabre dance party that amused the clientele and irritated the manager), the zombies regrouped in the woods near the fighters. ... There's obviously something ironic about mocking a group of people who dress up in costumes and attack each other by dressing up in costumes and attacking them. And so those zombies who perhaps weren't initially very interested in Hooper's more spiritual goal of seeking escape by playing a role, and who really just wanted to "stick it to the nerds," were subject to a revelation.

the zombie call: " You know those nerdy Cegep kids who run around on the mountain during Tam Tams fighting with duct tape weapons? We're trying to recruit an army of slow, dumb annoying zombies to go and attack them, just to see what happens. We're meeting for a potluck at 1:00pm, putting on makeup, dirty clothes etc., and then going out to do battle. You're heavily encouraged to prepare some zombie clothes beforehand (rip up some old clothes and smear them with dirt), and bring makeup if you have it. " -stillepost.ca

The Z-Day experience retold by one of the zombies.
and then everyone was dead and ready, we just got out on the streets and started walking toward the mountain. we established early on that we were gonna be classic slow moving zombies. not the running kind. so what would usualy have been a 5 minute walk took us about 45 minutes. ... we scared little children, we stopped cars, we tried to grab passers-by and eat their brains, we screamed and moaned, we bumbed into eachother. the look on peoples faces, that WHAT THE FUCK look. it was oh so priceless. people just didnt understand why this was happening a 3rd of july.

G4 video clip on the zombie attack.
The clip is short and fairly derogatory, but. *shrug*

If I saw that coming down the street, I'd probably end up having to kick into zombie-survival mode and go for my sidearm. Boy, would that be hard to explain in court:

"Your honor, when the zombie scourge is upon us, w-"
"The zombie what?"
"Scourge."
"Zombie scourge?"
"You know, the undead rise from the grave and return to the land of the living to feast on human flesh?"
"Uh...."
"Anyways, we have to be prepared. How was I supposed to know they were only pretending to be undead? No one goes around pretending to be a leprachaun, getting caught and forced to give up some gold. So they shouldn't go around as zombies, else they should be prepared for a right good head shot with a trusty .45 auto."
".....I sentence you to twenty-five years to life, you weirdo."

...yea...awesome.
