work; concert
Jul. 11th, 2006 01:00 amOkay, today was really weird and full of surprises. It started like every other day -- with me being late for work.
Well... during the course of the day,
queenmaab informed me that she had tickets for the Nickelback show at the Pepsi if I wanted to go. Uhm. Free concert? With a band I like well enough. Count me in! :D Add to that the new office redesign, which wa snot exactly a pleasant surprise, since I found out that not only would my desk be at the front of the room next to the door, but that the way the desk is situated, my back would be to the door, therefore everyone passing by would be able to see what I was doing on my screen. Uhhmm. No. I will need to work on that.
Right. So. Concert! At the Pepsi! In a private box! My first show there since Sheryl Crowe/Michelle Branch several years ago. Here we go:
Hinder
They were sort of... emo/punk/rock. I'd never actually heard of them before, but their lead singer had some pretty interesting on-stage moves. Reminded me a lot of the 70s glam rockers. I know for sure they played "Get Stoned" and "Lips of an Angel"; I really couldn't understand one word otherwise. After their set, I was thinking about getting their CD from the merch area... except the CDs were being sold through FYE and so ridiculously expensive. $18?! And a special note that the band would sign the CD as well. Uhm, yeah, no.
Three Days Grace
I really dig them. I don't know why I don't have a CD yet. Or at least a download of some kind. They played "Animal I Have Become," "Pain," "Never Too Late," "Just Like You," "I Hate Everything About You," and a couple other songs. It was cool. The lead singer kept pronouncing Albany like "AL-bin-ee" instead of "ALL-bin-ee," which was sort of annoying.
Hoobastank
You know... I am not a huge Hoobastank fan. I think they could have gotten better if they hadn't exploded all over MTV. But in any case, they put on a good show and the lead singer amuses me. I do like their harder songs more than the ballads, but then again I can actually understand the lyrics to those because he's singing instead of screaming. Hrm. At one point during the set, they started a mini "guess this song" game and played bits of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall" (during which the lead singer says, "are you guys even old enough to know this song?") and Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer." It's funny that the people singing the lyrics probably weren't even born yet when the Bon Jovi song came out :x They were signing after their set too, but there was no way I was going to even look at that line :-P
Nickelback
Holy flaming pyro. Big loud booms and sparks and flames. o_O And there was a lot of feedback, I think. But still enjoyable. I do like some of their songs even though a lot of them begin to should the same. After each song, Chad Kroeger always said, "Thank you very much!" in this funny tone that made me kind of laugh. They played a nice selection of songs from all their albums.. I guess. I really don't know anything except what I have heard on the radio and some of Silver Side Up.Towards the end, they had their roadies shoot t-shirts out of air canons at the audiance. That was pretty funny. The drummer was freakin' awesome. I still think Nickelback is just redneck hard rock. Heh. But they put on a good show.
The amount of picks & water bottles thrown during all four sets was ridiculous. Also, Nickelback was the only group that wasn't constantly spitting all over the stage. And Chad Kroeger thinks he's redneck. Ugh. I'd hate to be the roadie cleaning that up.

Date: 2006-07-12 01:04 am (UTC)I used to dig Nickleback, but since they embraced the whole flaming pyro redneck modern day cockrock schtick (and Chad getting arrested for drunk driving), cant really listen to their stuff. And I have their independant CD. :/
