Apr. 25th, 2006 09:32 pmWork was... meh. The one highlight? There was a contact on a bid named P. Enus. Yes, really.
After work, I stopped by Best Buy to pick up Aeon Flux, Tristan & Isolde, and Farscape Starburst Edition 2.2. I almost got Casanova, but I wasn't about to spend $20 on a moie I hadn't seen and really wasn't sure about even though Heath Ledger was in it. Was going to buy Advent Children, but apparently they sold out of all 25 copies they'd gotten before 3pm. The girl (who got asked for it three times while was standing there looking at new releases) said they were overnighting more copies. Heh.
Afte that, I headed over to
queenmaab's to have a look at her Photoshop and ImageReady.. which are working fine? But it was still cool to stop and say hi. I like being social :x
Glargh. So... I think I may have found the root of my display/DVD problems. It seems my DirectX is being tweaky. When I go into DirectX Diagnostic, under display, it is showing "n/a" for Approx. Total Memory and "Not Available" for DirectX Features. GLARGH. I've looked it up online and have seen random solutions which may or may not work and range from turning off shared desktop (mine was off), switching to a resolution of 800x600 with a 16bit color setting, to disabling ProxyHost (??). And someone else mentioned chipsets. OMG. I HAVE NO IDEA. *ignores*
Off to read the flist and possibly be... semi-productive.

Date: 2006-04-26 05:22 pm (UTC)It's worth a try though. If you have anything less that 9.0c you're due for an upgrade anyway.

Date: 2006-04-26 08:44 pm (UTC)Summary: Worth watching maybe once, if you like romantic "comedies".
Lena Olin is far and away the best actress in this and a true scene-stealer, Sienna Miller looks much better as a brunette than as a blonde, and the CGI in one of the scenes was so crappy it broke my suspension of disbelief, and almost nothing does that.
Depressingly, the role played by Oliver Platt was far more unattractive than he needed to be and far more unattractive than I considered Oliver Platt previously. I'm pretty sure they gave him fake gross teeth and that was just unnecessary. (God, I hope they gave him fake teeth.)
It's hard to say anything that would spoil this movie, mainly because the plot is so predictable and milquetoast that I don't feel the need to rant, explain, or otherwise comment upon the actual events of the movie at all. Which in and of itself is mildly upsetting—but only mildly. Since to be really upset would have required emotion to be generated by the film, and this film (if you have not already guessed) does not do that.
Heath Ledger—much better in A Knight's Tale. In fact, A Knight's Tale is better all around, aside from the fact that Sienna Miller is slightly more attractive than Shannyn Sossamon, or at least Miller was dressed better. Though it would be very hard to be dressed worse than Sossamon in A Knight's Tale.
This movie also suffers from lack of Paul Bettany, my dream lover.
All in all:
C—not a waste of time, not something I ever feel compelled to see again.
