Today is David Hewlett's birthday. Awww *hearts*

Work was good. I, uh, once again ran out of work to do, so ended up putzing around for a while and then talking to the boss before it was finally time to go. One thing that always gets me about the job though? We have to process requests for proposals -- RFPs. My brain keeps thinking, RPF. You can see where this is a problem.

My birthday this year? Might not suck. *hopes*

After dinner, [livejournal.com profile] shoemaster and I are probably going to watch "Crackers Don't Matter" after we both get back from dinner. *glee*

Randomly...

Me: This article says Tom Cruise **screened for grossness**.
Mom: Oh. Some Chinese people do that.
Me: o_O ... ew....
Mom: It has nutrients.
Me: That's gross.

[livejournal.com profile] athenaktt tagged me for the username meme

1) Write a little paragraph about your name, why you chose it, what it means to you, etc.

Ready for geekiness? Okay, here goes. I needed an online identity and a new screenname, so I made up "Amezri Mizudax," which is a mash of character names from Deep Space Nine and Sailormoon -- Ezri Dax and Ami Mizuno. I went by Mizudax for a while and then got bored with it and switched to Amezri (after a pitstop using... some other other fandom inspired name I can't remember right now). Creative? Well... maybe not, but I thought it was pretty original and cool until one of those username google memes came along and I found out that Amezri is a village in Morocco. *pout*

2) What would you change your name to, if you were changing it?

Uhm. I dunno. I kinda like what I have. I'm used to it now. And I like it a lot. *shrug*

3) What is your favorite username? Why?

Uhm. I like mine? But from my flist, I think [livejournal.com profile] eretria is pretty cool. And [livejournal.com profile] spaggel is fun to say.

4) Now, tag five other unfortunates whose usernames you would like to hear about:
Hrm. I guess I'm curious about [livejournal.com profile] eretria, [livejournal.com profile] antheia, [livejournal.com profile] pheti, [livejournal.com profile] lierdumoa, [livejournal.com profile] thepeopleseason .. and whoever else wants to share

It is kind of icky... but it is something I considered.

I decided not to because, really, the nutrients it provides aren't ones I was turning out to be deficient in through the course of the pregnancy, so why bother? *shrug*

.....

That's still kind of gross. 'cause I'm not really looking to eat anything that came out of my own body. Which, I suppose I really shouldn't mind, but yeah. Heh.

Speaking of gross, when are we going to have our Cube watching night? *g*

*grin* Mmmm, a night of cinematic grossness!

I donno... pretty much any night is good for me, except Wednesdays, which is WoW night. And alternate Mondays are Vampire night.

It's a huge practice in England. There are recipes online for it and everything. I almost contemplated it, but Bliss said "Hellz no!"

Actually, I am not sure if the placenta eating bit is what really squicked me in that article. (Just goes to show I have spent too long doing medieval studies and knowing the various things they did with the caul...)
The rest of his comments were far more shudder inducing in the long term, because hello, sanity is a good thing people!

I went back and reread that article for the other craziness. *boggles* Tom Cruise no longer posesses sanity, so I should really stop being shocked.

In fact he no longer even appears to possess insanity. Insane people sometimes look sane and he looks, well. I've seen fruitier bananas, but not by much. Him and a small child around - gaaah.

Y'know, I knew what *screened for grossness* was before I even clicked on the link. My guy's a nursing student, taking his obstetrics/pediatrics rotation this semester. It's a subject I've heard about ad nauseum (tee hee :D) the past few months...

This is... only vaguely related, but this happened today at work:

New guy goes to boss with his medical insurance form. He points at a section and goes, "I'm not sure what I put for this. Do I have an OB/GYN?" Boss just sort of looks at him and goes, "Uhm. I hope you don't have an OB/GYN." New guy looks confused and boss has to explain.

Uhm. Maybe that was only funny if you were there... :x

It's interesting, that, because when my mum worked in the hospital in the 60s, she told me (well, later, obviously), that they always had the most amazing geraniums in the whole area. Uhm. Yeah. They had really good fertilizer ... afterbirths are good that way. Colour me very flabberghasted.
And, for the name, I'm not that big on memes and I have done a smiliar one a while ago already, but I could answer the meme here? And you like my name? Really? *hearts*

Sure, use placentas for fertilizer. But the eating? Of your own human placenta? That's just.. kinda disturbing.

You can either answer it here, link me, or choose not to answer at all :x It's up to you.

I heart your username. And I'm sure I pronounce it wrong, but yeah. It's cool.

It's common practice with Maori's and Pacific Islanders here in NZ I've been told - a friend of mine was telling me about what she's going to do with the placenta when she has her baby in June. It kinda grossed me out.. but considering some of the other stuff she eats (rotton cray fish, rotton corn, pigs brain, the stomachs of lobsters *gags*) a placenta isnt so bad!

I've even seen them cooking it up on the Maori chanel cooking show once! weird and trippy and.. really bizarre to watch..

I just... if you were meant to take the nutrients back in, your body would be set up so it automatically reabsorbs the placenta. Or something.

Even knowing lots of other cultures do it and that it's perfectly normal? It's still gross. :x
