My hair is now black & Vampire Red. I know I never posted the pics from two weeks ago when I got my hair done.

So here it is:

The red part had faded to an orangey color in about two weeks and I'm too annoyed to go back to the salon to have them fix it, so today I bought some Manic Panic so I could do it myself :-P My mom did it, actually. She dyed the top bit black because my hair is actually dark brown and I wanted it black. Then she put in the Vampire Red... let it set for about three hours and I think it looks brill. Will take photos tomorrow if I remember.

And now.. for bed.

looks good!

but the salon dye job only lasted two weeks?! that's utter crap. i wouldn't've asked them to do it again, i would've asked for a refund. seriously. i mean, i'm not that kind of "never pleased" person, but when people F* something up, they need to own up to it.

I've never had red red last longer than two weeks :(
Never had it fade to orangey, but it usually ends up going to a natural looking auburn,
I've gone almost black (true black makes me look deathly pale) with blond streaks lately for that reason, but I'm gonnna try really close to black with bright red streaks in a few weeks.

Thanks! A lot of salons seem to have issues dying my hair right.

*totally understands* There is only ONE place that has ever done my hair the correct colour that's actually stuck for longer then a few weeks. Sadly, the salon is in australia not here. :(

but yes, i totally understand how frustrating it is having to continually dye your hair red because it's fades so fast (any blue based colour fades way to fast.. ).. you saw how many times I did my hair while you were here.. heheheheheheh

It looks awesome! :)

Never have had a salon color -- between my mother and then my sister always doing their own color (and for that matter Mom doing the home-perms on my sister and I and getting damned good at it, too) I've always thought of "coloring your hair" as meaning, "buy the color/developer/gloves/etc. and do it yourself on the weekend." I don't recommend Manic Panic, though, since it's a real fast fade (or so my sister told me) -- Special Effects is good for long-lasting bright color. (It's what I used when I had blue hair.)

Heh, I've always gotten my hair colored by a hair dresser, but I'm starting to think about doing it on my own. Much cheaper ^^*

My friends in college all used Manic Panic, so that's the brand I'm familiar with. They did have Special Effects at Hot Topic and I picked it p, but I'd never heard of it, so went with the brand I knew. Manic Panic supposedly has a longer lasting formula and I also got the color depositing shampoo, which I always need anyway.

Next time, though, I'll give the Special Effects a try. Thanks for the rec!

My sister started with Manic Panic (well, possibly she was one of the ones who originally used Kool-Aid before exotic dye colors started being available) and switched to the brands sold at Hot Topic precisely because they lasted much better than Manic Panic. (Which in fact IIRC is no longer itself sold at Hot Topic, though it's right there on the shelf at beauty supply stores.) Plus people who came up to me asking what dye I used specifically mentioned they'd used Manic Panic themselves and it hadn't lasted more than a couple of weeks.

So I don't have personal experience with Manic Panic, but I've heard from others who have and who were unimpressed with it.
