OMGWTF?! The recruiter called our house AGAIN looking for my brother. DUDE. WTF?! How many times does he have to say no?!

He doesn't want to die in the war. kthnxbye.

I am in no way being critical of people who choose to be in the military, but when you call someone a dozen times and they say no everytime? You need to stop.

Actually the timing makes sense from a recruiter's POV - the holidays are over and about 25% of all college freshman drop out and the realities of the tuition bills should be settig in about now.. but yeah its time to give up.

It just seems such a strange concept to me having people actively recruit for the military. One of the things that I love about here is that it's always been a personal choice if you want to join the military (even if for some people it's a decision influenced by access to education and the like), but we've never had people go out to find people to sign up. But then, maybe that's because the major military based event/day in the Australian callendar is ANZAC Day - a day comemorating one of the biggest defeats and the sheer pointlessness of war.

It has been a personal choice, but I don't think they've been quite so active about it in the past - they're just running out of willing bodies at this point, I reckon.

BTW - in case I miss it because I'm like 16 hours behind... HAPPY BIRTHDAY :D

That's pretty much it, I think -- they're low on volunteers and hoping that, as noted above, if your brother is pondering dropping out or having an existential crisis or whatever, they'll catch him at the point where joining the military actually sounds like a good idea.
