Uh. Medium is a repeat tonight. Dude. WTF?

Was flipping through the channels this morning and heard the most horrible thing - Jamie Cullum covering Radiohead' "High & Dry." I totally didn't like the cover and I know that all the little Cullum teenies are going to think that's his song. UGH.

Packages in the mail! Well, one was not really that exciting... just some jewelry parts. One was a package from [livejournal.com profile] fyrdrakken that needs to be sent on to [livejournal.com profile] trippininabox after I marathon the episodes and another was my order from DeepDiscount with "Croupier" (CLIVE!) and "Shallow Grave" (EWAN!).

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it was supposed to be new...though I might actually check when it comes on, just in case someone made a boo-boo on the website...or did you see a commerical?

I was checking on tvguide.com what time it was on and noticed the little "repeat" indicator. Apparently, Medium has a Monday @ 10 slot and tonight's was just a repeat to gain more audiance.

What actually bothers me more the fact that he has apparently covered "The Wind Cries Mary", which is quite possibly my favorite Hendrix song (besides his rendition of the Star Spangled Banner), and I JUST KNOW that half of Cullum's fanbase don't know about Jimi or his songs. Radiohead at least is still producing music, so people are more likely to know their songs. Or at least "High And Dry". I dunno -- I'm just as much of a raving Radiohead fan as I am of Jimi, but somehow this seems worse.

Ugh. I don't even want to know.

You're right though - Cullum covering Hendrix is worse than Cullum covering Radiohead - if only because most of his fans wouldn't even know the original. I'm all for artists doing covers and making songs their own, but it still sounded so wrong to me :-P

There are Cullum teenies? Ugh. I feel kind of grubby now.... I enjoy his stuff, from a musicianship pov. From the interviews and stuff I've read / seen with him, he'd be equally appalled that people thought they were his own songs. Which is something. *g*

Cullum's been mentioned on MTV and VH1 over here, so I'm sure he's gained the appropriate amount of teenies. I confess that I don't know anything about him, but I've developed an aversion to most MTV artists, which is judgemental and wrong, but there it is.

He's been on MTV? Huh. O.o

What I've gathered of him, he's a v competent musician, with great stage presence, energy, and enthusiasm for what he does. He's not up his own arse, and he's got respect for all the traditions and genres he brings into his work.
Which, of course, is just MHO, and is just as likely to be judgemental and wrong ;-)

Spotted your AIM message, glad they arrived okay, feel free to preview them and make sure the burn went well! (Or copy them, if you can -- had you wanted your own copy, you could have just asked at the time. It would have been no trouble sending two disks instead of one.)

I don't have a DVD burner... but I want to invest in one eventually - everyone seems to have one these days. For myself, I have VCDs, which are all right, but I figured it would have cost less, saved mucho time, and be easier to ship if I asked you to burn one DVD (at the time I was planning to pay you, thank you for sending them gratis!).

I lucked out and caught a special offer Dell was running when I ordered my laptop, which was a free upgrade from CD-burner/DVD-ROM (what my father has) to a CD and DVD combo burner. Damned handy, especially now that my desktop's CD burner software has gone funny on me, insisting that I need to pay $30 to keep using it. (And this after having had it more than a year, and the software in question IIRC being pre-installed stuff. I blame the program for going screwy somehow, not that it was actual trial stuff that the free period ran out on.) Since I have the DVD burner and think it's a good thing to have the same files on both systems, I've been able to get by doing all burning from the laptop.
