evox.net suspended
Nov. 4th, 2004 01:18 amFUCKING HOSTPC SUSPENDED MY ACCOUNT.
Last year, I was told that my formmail script was not secure. Fine. I replaced it right away with another version that the owner, Joe, said was okay. I haven't checked it since then and I haven't had any other complaints about it.
Suddenly, my fucking account is suspended and they tell me that it's because I'm using formmail. The only formmail script they allow is by some guy named Dan and anyone using another formmail will be contacted and then suspended. Uhm, I was NEVER CONTACTED. It would have been nice if they fucking told me.
I've put up with so much crap from these people - numerous server moves, downtime, slowness, outages. Dude. WTF?! The asshole support dude I always seem to get tells me that there are numerous posts about it on the board. I don't read your goddamn forum. I have better things to do than hang out at my hosting service's forum. I pay you so I can get my stuff hosted and so I don't have to worry about crpa like this - so you will e-mail me if there is a problem. There was NO BAN on formmail when I first signed up.
This is what I replied to the help ticket with:
I'm sorry. I don't read the forums on a regular basis and did not know about the total elimination of formmail scripts except for that written by Dan.
I had been using Matt's formmail.cgi script when I first signed up and Joe alerted me of the problem. I do not remember formmail being forbidden at that time as Joe didn't mention it in his e-mail to me. If he did, I certainly wouldn't have used another formmail script. I immediately switched to a secure formmail.pl script from http://nms-cgi.sourceforge.net, which I recall Joe approving of. Of course, I do not have the e-mail, so I cannot prove this. This was also over a year and a half ago. The least you could have done was contact me first. I had no idea that this was causing a problem now and I have not had any problems with my three other hosts that have been running the nms formmail for over a year.
The script I'm currently using is secure as far as I can comprehend - mail can only be generated from domains I specify and sent to the address specified within the code. You can't e-mail to another address if I haven't specified the address in the perl file. It uses an alias in the actual e-mail form of the html. The e-mail address is coded into the perl file and not in a "hidden" field in the html, like Dan's script.
We don't all read the forums obessively and I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with the level of communication and the quality of your customer service. If I must pay the $20 restore fee, I will when my paycheck clears in a few days. Pleae do me the favor of not removing my account before that time.
ARGH!! *strangles them*
