Irish journalist riles Bush over Abu Graib, missing WMDs [realvideo link]

An Irish journalist Carole Coleman asks the questions American journalist won't - to Bush's face. Coleman asked Bush if he's satisfied with the amount of support from Europe and Bush responds with, "Really what you're talking about is France, isn't it?" Ugh. Coleman continues to ask straightforward questions to Bush's dismay. She's the first Irish reporter to land a White House interview since 1984. I don't think it'll be happening again... the White House lodged a complaint with the Irish embassy.

I've always liked the Irish. This is just another reason to like them more. ;)

Is that just being picked up on over there? I think it happened sometime in early summer when Bush came over to visit. It was quite big news at the time, if only because that's the treatment *every* politician gets on tv over here. His advisors had obviously never watched Newsnight with the dreamy Jeremy Paxman.

Is that *it*?! They complained about *that*?! That's effing nothing compared to what Jeremy Paxman and John Snow dish out on BBC1 and Channel 4 every day! She let him ramble on for ages and didn't even bother to speak down to him or try and find an opposing view to challenge the ones he puts forward, as is they style for news interviews (At least some of the time anyway). For God's sake, Jeremy Paxman got away with asking Blair if he prayed with Bush and no one at Downing Street complained. What a bunch of effing wimps! Maybe his team should do some research on the accepted styles of journalism before they hand out the interviews.
And I get a lovely familiar feeling every time I see the RTE logo pop up in unexpected places...

It was reported by the SF Gate in July.. I guess when it happened? I didn't even hear about it until recently when I was sifting through a forum about Jon Stewart's appearance on Crossfire.

They're complaining because Bush is a complete IDIOT who doesn't know how to respond if he hasn't been coached. Also, American journalists will only ask really scathing questions if you're not a policitian. And even then, not to your face. Basically, American journalists are afraid to ask any questions a European journalist will ask because usually it will have some severly negative effects.

Bush = ass.

Bush - carefully prepared answers to pussy questions = dumbass.

November 2nd + informed voters = John Kerry as president. (Please.)

but the problem is that many of our voters are not informed...

I would agree with that. I maintain, however, that it's the responsibility of voters to be informed. Our society certainly does not suffer from a lack of accessibility to tools for learning. IMHO, if you register to vote, you're accepting responsibility for finding out as much as you can so that you can make an informed decision.
