another venom-filled post

amezriMinimal swearing. And I have a skewed view of criminal justice.
Dinner is always an event when my father is home. Not only does he interfere with all the cooking my mother and I do, he's forever criticising everything else. Tonight he has his obnoxious friends over, not that he told us before hand. The dinner conversation was less than amusing, but it was before dinner that I really got aggravated.
Somehow I just baited into a discussion on prison and punishment. As in, I said jaywalking is not a jailable offense. My father then says: "Jay walking is breaking the law, and if you break the law, you should be killed."
Er... what the fuck?! I don't know why I even bother to argue, it's not like he listens to anyone when they speak. I said that the punishment should fit the crime, yet still be something people fear. Like, if you are caught stealing, you should have your hand chopped off. That sure as hell would keep me from stealing. My father says, no, you should get a bullet in the head.
Okay, you know, mutilation is extreme, but what?! And in my defense I have to say that I do believe in an eye-for-an eye sort of punishment system. If you just get executed, eh, so what? You don't learn anything. You don't suffer. No one really fears it. I think it would be perfectly fair for say, a man convicted of rape to have his penis removed. I think that would keep guys from commiting rape a lot better than a stupid jail sentence.
Anyway.. then suddenly my father says something about having your brain removed. Erm. WHAT?! That yes, that's a good punishment and the person would learn no to do that again. Okay, besides the fact that they would be dead - unless he mean brain damage and then they would be vegetative - how do you learn anything if you don't have a brain? And my idea is that you would suffer for your crimes. If you're dead or brain damaged, what do you care?
Right. Anyway. The point is that my father then says - "this is all liberal thinking!"
... I want to mutilate criminals. You want to kill them. I don't think either of us are right, but at least my criminals would be alive! What does that have to do with being a liberal anyway??
During dinner was even more fun. I sat in silence while he and his two redneck friends (no really, they are) bashed everyone. Liberals, Jews, Democrats, Germans, people of mixed decent... it was sickening. Then they talked about the girl in Florida who got kidnapped and how the guy who did it went free because the judge must have been a liberal and how kids are getting kidnapped because the country is too liberal and there are no rules. Fuck. What the hell??
What really gets me is that I don't think he really understands Republicans. If he did, he might not be for them. He's a Chinese immigrant - where does he get off supporting all the talk about keeping immigrants out of the country taking "our" jobs? Who the fuck are you to say that? You are not a priviledged white man - you are an outsider with an accent. Shut. Up. It's disgusting that he would think or talk that way.
You know what I hope? I hope one day he's walking down the street and he gets accosted by a gang of white guys. I hope they beat the crap out of him, get arrested, and then go free for no other reason than the fact that they bought off the white, Republican judge. Everything he wishes on people other than him, that should happen to him. He should be accused of being a terrorist and held without counsel, only because the government - his beloved conservative, republican government - has made it okay to do so.
Maybe that wouldn't teach him a lesson, but I sure as hell would be amused.
