Uhm. Yeah, so really don't read this if you want to stay unspoiled for the 100th episode of Angel.
I liked this episode. I really, really did. The return of Cordelia. Lindsey. Cordelia! Snarky, bitchy, Queen Cordy! The Doyle video! Eve finally getting caught. I liked that Spike, whether or not he really meant it, said that he was testing Cordy to see if she were evil... because evil tastes kind of oaky. Not really sure why Cordelia didn't remember who Spike was. That was a pretty crazy semester in high school.
Connor. Never mention that name again. The greasy one can stay gone, thank you. I did appreciate the continuity, though.
The whole Lindsey/Eve plot line was pretty anti-climactic. I was waiting for this whole big thing and yeah, there was a fight, but it fizzled. And the huge Beast that was supposed to get out... I suppose they'll wait until the season finale to unleash it.
Spike plays XBox. And is apparently as bad as I am at Donkey Kong.
Again, I say.. Cordelia! I had no idea how much I missed her until she came back. She's the strong female presence and snark that's desperately needed. Fred has been pushed to the backburner and Harmony's like season one Cordy. Eve was always annoying and, as Cordy said, "Lilah Jr.," except now she's gone too. Except she's farking dead!! Yeah, I didn't exactly put it together until the end when she said she and Angel would catch up with the gang, but that's because I wanted it to be real.
Comments on Cordelia's death: I like the fact that she was already dead when Angel and Wes got to the hospital. The whole, "oh yeah, poor girl, can't get her own room," diversion totally makes sense now, as well as the freshly showered and groomed look. *shrug* To me there's more impact knowing that the PTBs owed her this chance to stick around and set Angel straight, rather than a last hurrah vision and her, I dunno, re-ascending or something. *shrug* Just my take on it anyway.
Doyle. I'm really glad to see that they brought him back via the video. It was a nice tribute to Glenn, I think, despite whatever differences there were on set. Especially loved how pissed Cordelia got about anyone impersonating him. *glee*
No matter what I say about Harmony, I do like her. She amused me. Like tonight, when she was all for torturing Eve. "I'm evil. I can torture for the team." That was classic. Hey, if Angel won't do it, why not? He didn't have a problem with it. Hell, he told her that if Eve moved, she could eat her. I think I would have liked that end a bit better than Eve fading away.
Gunn is boring. I liked him better when he hit things.
Wesley. Casting spells. Teh hawtness.
Lindsey's ending was... wow, fairly lame. A portal opens up, he spits out "Do you think they're mad at me?" and off he goes. So very, very lame. Though, I dunno, maybe that opes up another possibility for return.
Wirework. Meh. Not impressive. Always looks like they're floating or flying and not jumping. But whatever.
More or less accurate quotage:
Angel: I don't want to put anyone I care about at risk.
Spike: I'll go.
Angel: Okay.
I think I had more thoughts, but they've seeped out of my head.
And now for the part where I bitch extensively about an episode based on its preview.
Next Week: Angel saves the world from Nazis!
Look. I know we're doing the whole war on terrorism thing, but really. Have the writers been paying attention? Ever? Spike as a Nazi I could buy if I were really ignoring the whole DRUSILLA thing. Spike would be all for the murder of millions of people. Angel, however, is a completely different can of eggs. (Yes, I said can of eggs.) For a dumpster-diving, self-loathing, miserable wretch, Angel sure does make the rounds helping the helpless. They've already killed continuity with "Are You Now..." (not too badly here) and "House Always Wins" (rolling with the Rat Pack?!), so I guess there's precedent, but seriously. What in god's name is Angel doing on a submarine fighting Nazi Germany in 1943?

Date: 2004-02-04 08:28 pm (UTC)Unless the "PtB" were a fraud and Jasmine's tool all along, and Cordy's presence was just a pleasant hallucination.
What in god's name is Angel doing on a submarine fighting Nazi Germany in 1943?
Maybe he's Captain America?

Date: 2004-02-04 08:54 pm (UTC)That's a very good point. Now, are you saying that the PtBs have always been a fraud, or were they real at some point before becoming fradulent? 'Cause that could be interesting...

Date: 2004-02-05 04:52 am (UTC)no, she did-she was saying "spike who?", like she couldn't believe he meant *THE* spike...because the last time she checked he was evil. that's what she was trying to convey-and i think why she was sorta nervous to see him in the hall...and then biting her. lol.
i absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED cordy last night. it was our old cordy. she was snarky, and queen bitch. i loved it!! i thought she was going to spill out of her blouses, tho! O.o and yes, i'd come to that conclusion, too, that it was really *her* in the bed. *nod* considering we never saw her face!
also-charisma-she looked FANTASTIC, didn't she?! i'm glad she went back to the brown curly hair-that straight, short blond was terrible! made her face look even more round than the pregnancy made it! O.o
and lindsay looked FINE. i was laughing at the part (in between drooling, of course!) when he ripped his shirt off all the way. heh. like he *needed* to do that? of course, rippling muscles are good for me any day. ^_^
when i saw doyle's video, i almost cried. :_( our poor, sweet doyle & glenn quinn. *sob* and then cordy's "first soldier down"...so sad!
*SOB*

Date: 2004-02-05 01:00 pm (UTC)I don't think it's the last time we've seen Lindsey or Eve.
DOYLE VIDEO! *whimper, paws* Poor Doyle. (Poor Glenn.)
I thought it was a very decent way to write Charisma out. I hated the lingering coma thing when we all knew she wanted off the show to do the family thing. This is much more definite and gave Cordelia an ending she deserves.
The Nazi thing...I wasn't at all sure that was an actual flashback or if there's some weird time thing going on, like that one X-Files in the Triangle thingie. But you're right. They have killed continuity with the other eps, so. Meh.

Date: 2004-02-05 01:09 pm (UTC)And about the preview for next week, I don't think it's actually flashbacks. At least I hope. You know how in shows sometimes they have someone else's flashbacks and use characters from the show as the people in the flashback? I dunno. That's what I thought.
