I will admit it. I spent 2 hours today watching VH1 and their Christina Aguilera specials because, in fact, I do like Christina Aguilera. There. I said it. I'm a closet fan. Not raging, but a more than passing interest. Of all the teen pop stars from the last 5 years, I think she's the only one with any real vocal talent. We all know that Britney is a good entertainer, but I still have never heard the girl sing an acoustic set or an acapella anything - does she even know how? Mandy Moore never wanted to be a singer anyway - she's got the acting bug. Yes... Christina is a walking slut bomb - but at least she acknowledges that fact. At least she doesn't give of this image and then pretend to be wholesome little miss goody-two-shoes. Beyond the image, I admire the fact that she can actually sing, despite all her dramatic vocal gymnastics. It was really something to watch her breaking down in the studios trying to record "I'm Okay".. because she wasn't. Or how she refused to back down because execs wanted to cut certain parts of her "Can't Hold Us Down" video. Which, is interesting, actually. The parts in question were really quick shots of Christina and other women making rude sexual gestures and maybe, possibly... jerking off a hose. Those were immediately labeled too lude, but the shots of the guys grabbing themselves and doing whatever else was okay. Ironically, the song is about the double-standards regarding sex. It's okay for guys to be rude and nasty, but not for girls. Meh.

I like her. Shut up. You may think less of me if you like. The defriending may commence :-p

Right. Since everyone is linking to it, so shall it. :lemmings:: 'Rings' characters discuss Oscar snub

Oh. Happy 23rd Birthday, Elijah ^_^ Not.. that's he'll see this. He's only 9 months older than I. *glee*

Agreed. I always liked Christina, liked her ever since she first came out, and for similar reasons - she's upfront about her doing what she does, instead of that pseudo saintly-but-let-me-strip-for-your-kids image. ANd her voice? Oh boy. And she uses it properly, too. Not that Brit doesn't have a good voice. She does. I wish she showed us more, insteasd of relying on playback constantly. But I guess it's hard to sing when you're dancing and stripping at the same time.

Rawk! ^___^ Is it wrong of me to assume that she does actually sing at her concerts?

I like Christina, and I agree with both of your about her voice.

I'm a fan of Britney, too, but I think that she hasn't been given material that uses her voice for several years, and she's lost her range in consequence. (I'm still impressed when I see her Star Search footage.)

I like Christina's message (most of the time), but I don't particularly like her. And don't worry, I won't defriend you in an angry rampage. :)

Yeah, there are days where I don't like her either, but you gotta have respect for that voice of hers. heh.

Yay! No angry defriending rampage ;)

Yeah, I guess. I remember seeing footage of Britney on Star Search and she had a better than average voice. Someone should teach her about the whole singing thing again. Of course, strippers make more money.

I think if she were really there for the art, she would fight more to use her voice - she definitely has the power to do so, especially these days. I think she's become content with the image she's created for herself without having to exercise her vocal muscles.
