work; tarzan 1.05
Nov. 6th, 2003 11:29 pmWork today went by pretty quick. And with the whole answering questions thing I did with the trainees, I felt competent. Heh. I wasn't on the floor too much, which is good because no one else ever seems to answer phones, so I end up doing that and helping customers in the store. It really depends on the day and who's working. When I left the store, the manager stopped and ask me when I was leaving and that I was an asset to the store and I would be missed. Aw, I doubt it but thanks. No, kidding, I know I'm one of those people employers like - works hard, shows up all the time, on time, and does what they are told. What can I say - Asian breeding, born under Virgo. Har har. Anyway..... yeah, work was okay today.
And now... my review of Tarzan. More reviews to follow, so expect the spam.

I've noticed.. Jane gets her ass beat a lot. So I'm glad they finally showed what they cut from the original pilot - that she does know how to defend herself. Pretty well actually. People were probably starting to wonder how she survived all those years as a cop without John saving her all the time :-P
Okay, Jane. Use that squishy grey thing in your skull - the locket has a tracking device. Jane, you're a moron.
Hahahaha! Nicki! Meeting John! And John almost falling out the window. Hahahaha! Random: Nicki was listening to Fifi Dobson. Immediately sensing there's something wrong, Tarzan helps Nicki save her friend - right now, no questions asked. Nicki is of course all smiley and thanks him.
More character sketchies for Kathleen and Richard. I'm still not sure if Kathleen is genuine or super-sneaky. Certainly the best way to keep John at her place is to allow him a lush garden room and the freedom to roam the city. Richard is still all about the control. Richard storms into his sister's place to find John - which he does. He tries to tell John that Jane would never love him because he's an animal, so hey, come with me and we'll fix you up. Yeah. Right. John calls him on the lies and tells him he hates him. Was is just me or did Richard look really wounded? He was near tears I would say. Of course, his brain then blames Kathleen - "She's poisoned him against me." - he doesn't consider that maybe keeping him in a cage 24/7 was a bit damaging?
Oh, right. B-story. Or A-story.. whatever. Nicki's friend is being abused by some internet nutter. So John goes with her to save her friend... who is being the classic battered wife/girlfriend and saying she needs to stay with Gary. Needless to say, it gets ugly, Gary slaps her around, and Tarzan busts in and kicks Gary's ass. Nicki is shocked, Jane comes in and is pissed of, Gary later goes free because Nicki's friend wouldn't charge him. Yay?
Gary's released and Jane tries to... taunt him into hitting her. Now, this is called entrapment and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't hold in court, but at least he'd be held on assualt charges, having hit a police officer and all. Just as he's about to hit her, John jumps in and puts a stop to it. Jane's pissed. Gary leaves. Tarzan's angry and confused... but then follows Gary. Psycho!Boy's gone after Nicki. Rather predictable. And hello, Nicki, you are the sister of a cop and you live in NYC - check the peep hole in the door. Idiot girl.
Nicki has enough brains to dial Jane's cell and the chase is on. With Overseer's "Supermoves" playing. Dude, that is the best action track... but it sounds out of place here. Meh. The chase ends on the bridge, where Gary gets shot and he and Nicki take a tumble. Tarzan jumps in and saves Nicki, which makes Jane cry like a baby because her sister almost died. Sam nods his thanks and Tarzan does the disappearing superhero thing.
C-story - the germophobe from last week who saw Michael accidentally die - Richard Clayton has him holed up at his mansion. He makes the guy change his story - Michael was killed by John and that's the god's honest. Look, I know somwhere in that twisted mind Richard loves John, but he really needs to get some help. Really. And I hope his henchman grows a conscience because in that scene he looked really sad about having to harass some with OCD into lying about something he didn't want to talk about in the first place.
But forget that because now we have a gratuitous shower scene! With nekkid Tarzan and cheesey dreamy glow! Jane is there to thank him for saving Nicki.. instead she gets a nice eyeful. Heh. And yeah, she doesn't want to look, but after the first glimpse, she sneaks back for another peek before turning to leave.. because he's not there anymore. XD Fleeeeee! And, hey, at least this show has bullet-wound consistency. When she finally got her tongue off the floor, I liked what she said to him - that people may see him as an animal, but she sees his gentle, caring side and she's glad that she does. Awww! So cute.
Travis Fimmel. The boy is nice to look at but should not be given any more lines until he's been properly trained. Really. Because his delivery is horrible. But.... his body language? Killer. Most actors can't pull off anything like he's been doing - the subtle movements, the look in his eye - it's all gotta come from modeling. So while I wouldn't say he's a crappy actor, I wouldn't say he's a good actor. He's just really pretty and knows how to convey emotions with that body of his. Works for me.
