f* walmart; news; new layout
Sep. 27th, 2003 01:55 amSince I haven't updated all day, be prepared for a long-winded entry. I'll be nice and cut things.
I had taken Cara's on call shift, so when I called to see if they needed me... they didn't. So I got today off. Which I was supposed to anyway. Spent most of the day wrestling with the colors/graphics/links on my new layout. Still sort of tweaking it now, actually.
The day started pretty well, but quickly proceeded to nose-dive. Burned two TomMcRae mix CDs with MP3s that all tested all right, but one track burned weird. As in, the MP3 is the full song and plays without error, but the CD only lists/plays the track as half the actual time. So I have to redownload the track and reburn both CDs. Argh. I'm supposed to be mailing one out tomorrow. I'll try it again later tonight.
Leaving the house wasn't any better. Naturally the ATM at the bank was "temporarily out of service" because mom needed to make a deposit and I needed to withdrawl some cash for next week. There was a return fiasco at Walmart (see below), stupidly long lines at Applebee's, pizza took nearly 2 hours to be delivered, lots of yelling in the house, and I missed
corngirl_jo on Jay Leno. I was about 2 minutes too late and only caught the lighthouse bit.
The thing that pissed me off the most today: Walmart. I have to exchange the Two Towers DVDs I bought for my friend's birthday because she got it and there were no DVDs inside. Now, obviously, this would be a problem as they probably think I bought it and stole it or something and am trying to exchange for another set. Except my story is so ridiculous... it's just damn ridiculous. I ordered it from Walmart.com, which apparently will not process gift returns through the mail. My friend doesn't have a Walmart near her, so she sent it back to me so I could return it. I've got the packing slips and everything. I called Walmart - two different stores, in fact - and asked them if I could return the DVD because there were no DVDs in it and both people said yes. They both said it would be no problem. I very clearly said.. there were no DVDs in the package. The obvious progression of this being me getting rejected by Walmart customer service because I don't have the DVDs. ... Of course I don't have the damn DVDs! That's why I'm exchanging it for a set that has the frelling DVDs in it!
So I call Walmart.com customer service and they tell me that, no, the store can't take it back because there are no DVDs and someone from Return Services will be calling me in a couple days. That's just bloody fantastic. I wouldn't even be so pissed if two return associates didn't tell me that it would be no feckin' problem. I am a reasonable person who works in retail. Who gets pissed off when I am told one this but then discover another to be true. At this point I just want to take the $15, tell Walmart to shove it, and go buy another DVD set from BJ's or Target or some other place not Walmart. Which I know is silly because it's not their fault, but really. I am annoyed.
News items:
+ Makers of Kazaa suing record labels for violating terms of use and
+ MediasharX examines internet fandom, specifically TWoP
+ French card deck names "Most Dangerous US Leaders", spoofing the silly ones the US gov't made
+ FTC's Do Not Call Registry blocked by US Supreme Court, who call it a First Amendment violation. ((So, this isn't in any way violanting my right not to have to be harassed?))
My accomplishment for the day: new layout! It's spiffy and totally colors I would have never thought to put together - except my cousin had made a silly wallpaper that was green with a grey-blue cat in the middle and it looked cool. So.. tada! Hmm.. I need a new icon to go with my new layout ^_^
Tomorrow, I think mom wants to go to a fair.. or a garlic festival. Erm. I dunno. She wants to take a day trip. So I will go with her. After a stop at the post office to mail packages to Arline,
sg1padawan, and
logansrogue
Right now: set tape for X-Men: Evolution, reburn Tom CDs

Date: 2003-09-26 11:53 pm (UTC)I'm loving the new layout... I am in awe of people that make such fantastic and beautiful layouts. They make my attempt at making a layout feel so uninspired and uncreative...
