So patricide is illegal, right?
Aug. 24th, 2003 11:04 pmThis really sounds a lot less dramatic than my father made it appear to be. Me writing it is nothing like the real impact of seeing him screaming about nothing and using logic that only makes sense if your brain was used as a basketball.
Scifi 1701D: *stabs father*
Scifi 1701D: He just came in here to yell at everyone because he wants to keep his 92 Ford Bronco
JennyEdu: and that requires yelling because...
Scifi 1701D: that's so rusted the fuel line is going to fall out. He doesn't see why anyone wants to buy a new car.
Scifi 1701D: He wants to go get it fixed. And then he says something stupid like where is my mother going to get $100-200K to buy a car
Scifi 1701D: ... wtf kind of car are we buying that's that much money?
JennyEdu: I'd like to know that too. You can get a really nice Mercedes for 50K
Scifi 1701D: Yeah..
Scifi 1701D: I dunno. He's cracked.
JennyEdu: quite
Scifi 1701D: And then he wants to know what I'm doing when I come back from NZ, because I won't need a 4wd car. Except we're looking at AWD, which is different
Scifi 1701D: and, anyway, it's replacing a car that's so rusted that it's going to fall apart if you poke it right.
Scifi 1701D: *kicks him*
JennyEdu: *shakes head*
Scifi 1701D: We have 4 cars insured. But only 2 are really drivable and one is a death machine that I suppose you can drive short distances.
Scifi 1701D: We're getting the plates back from the Volvo and dumping the Bronco for 1 good vehicle, and he's going ape shit because he wants to drive that scrap heap in the winter.
JennyEdu: why would he continue to pay insurance on something that isn't drivable or that no one feels safe driving
Scifi 1701D: Because my mother's the one who pays the insurance
JennyEdu: and if she just stopped paying insurance on the ones that aren't drivable...
Scifi 1701D: They'd take her license away because all the cars are in her name and she wouldn't have turned the plates in
Scifi 1701D: the Volvo is up in the Catskills somewhere getting "repaired." It's been there for nearly a year.
Scifi 1701D: Last year he came home, took my mother to the Mitsubishi dealer and had her sign a car in her name on the spot. because his credit is shit.
JennyEdu: only if it's driven. You can own a car and not drive it if it's a remodel job.
Scifi 1701D: I just asked him how much his Diamante (brand new, had 4 miles on it) and apparently it was $28k
Scifi 1701D: so I told him his car could have bought us two drivable used cars - and he looked at me like I had three heads. I don't think he could do the math.
JennyEdu: and your mother is so much of a doormat that she did it? No offense meant here but if he needs her name to get the car then she has final decision on what is bought.
Scifi 1701D: I think because the Volvo was already being driven, and insured, etc - it's not going to be counted as a remodel job. I dunno. I don't think we want to risk that.
JennyEdu: they can't and won't do anything unless you get caught driving it
Scifi 1701D: Well.. see. .. he'd likely just sign her name anyway. Chinese names are hard for non-Asians to decipher
Scifi 1701D: The thing is, it's possible he's letting people drive it. I dunno. I'll talk to my mother about it.
Scifi 1701D: I'm just hoping my mom decides to get rid of him. But she won't. She's too... nice.
JennyEdu: that's not nice - that
JennyEdu: 's allowing someone to emotionally abuse you and destroy you financially
Scifi 1701D: No kidding. I tell this to her all the time.
Scifi 1701D: She thinks she's obligated to stay with him... until some timelimit she's set..
Scifi 1701D: which was until my brother graduated college -_-;; She wante dto spare us. *rolls eyes*
JennyEdu: She needs to spare herself. Living ith all that garbage is more damaging than the split
Scifi 1701D: glargh. now he wants me to order some part for the car tomorrow.
JennyEdu: convince your mother that it's money pit that isn't safe, won't be safe and isn't gas efficient. Then tell him to piss off
Scifi 1701D: well *SHE* knows that.
JennyEdu: then ask her what her problem is.
Scifi 1701D: But he doesn't and will want to keep the damn thing
Scifi 1701D: Yeah, I've done that many times. She gets all huffy and cranky and says that she can't deal with it. Or that "these things take time"
Scifi 1701D: There are days I want to smack her.
JennyEdu: Instead of getting the part, go to www, donate.com and donate the thing to charity to get a tax deduction and don't tell him ahead of time. Just do it and let him get over it
Scifi 1701D: hm... good idea
JennyEdu: they'll come collect it even
Scifi 1701D: nice...
JennyEdu: solves several issues - best one is you don't need his agreement or cooperation. She doesn't need to stand up to him. All she has to say is that it's done and look here we have a tax deduction
Scifi 1701D: we were thinking of trading it in
Scifi 1701D: could maybe get $1000.. i dunno
JennyEdu: you might get a better tax deduction
Scifi 1701D: ah..
I do not comprehend his logic. Though I suppose that is a good thing. Deciding whether or not I want to order that part for him tomorrow. I could just say I didn't have time. Likely the truth as I probably won't. He claims we have to fix the door handle even if we decide to sell it. I really think the door handle is the last thing anyone who may want to buy the car would be thinking about since the fuel line and the transmission are about to go. And if we trade it in.. well, whatever. A $60 door handle cable is not going to make that much difference.
Scifi 1701D: *stabs father*
